Who here has several guitars and amps but is not in a band?

When I find a guitar I like, I want one in every color. Is that so wrong?

So much gear, so little time.

Nothing like making $75 bucks a night as a bar band playing to drunk fat chicks and dewds spilling beer on your pedalboard.

And if you're lucky you wont get carjacked on the 3:45am loadout.

Thats Showbiz ...

I play in bands constantly. I've mostly been doing it for a living for the last 10 years, since real estate (my sis had I had a company doing title work). I've been fortunate to get into high paying agency gigs. I still like to gig 3-4 nights a week.

I bought the majority of what I have now from playing in the bands I've been in. My wife is an engineer, and has bought me some of it as well...she rocks! A few pieces of gear I've had for a while though.

I've got 12 amps right now, and 10 guitars. Since getting the H&K Tubemeister 36 and a Grandmeister, I don't use many of my amps anymore. I have a Triamp MKII, Triple Rec, and 6505 that don't get turned on anymore. No, actually I use the Triamp as a late night studio light (my lights burned out and I installed multi-color leds with an external power supply). Guitar wise, I mostly use my Strats and a BC Rich from the 80's. I do switch them up occasionally though.

To be honest, when I see these dude's that have all of the top end gear in the world and they have never, ever played with a band...I feel a bit sick... it's seriously sickening to me...sorry, it just is. What a waste!

If it's just a couple guitars and amps, then it's all cool, but when their house looks like a guitar center.... it's just depressing.
are you being serious?
I don't know why it would bother you?
sounds like jealousy if you are not joking about this

Hell no, i'm not jealous. I got all the gear I need. It just seems like a waste is all...

I does seem that your are being jealous.

Why does it matter to you what other people spend? I gigged heavily, I know how to play, record and produce. I don't gig anymore as I couldn't earn the living I wanted to earn in that industry. I got educated, kicked asses and took names in the business front and did fairly well for myself. I'm now 51 and have a ton of gear that I love. What I spend my money on is my business. I work my ass off, I'm the sole bread winner in my family and I reward myself if I have the liquidity in cash and if my wife and kids needs are taken care of. Gear is tangible assets...coke (any drug or alcohol), titty bars and strippers are not. I buy high end stuff used and could cash out at any time and probably make some money. No I don't need all of this shit but I like it and it makes me happy.

Just turned 60 in March. I've worked hard and smart and been blessed by someone upstairs with some good breaks.

Kids are out of college and in careers of their own. Just me and the wife in a pretty big house and time for my hobbies. I couldn't afford nice gear growing up, but I sure can now. I've had a JMP, Vintage Modern, Classic 50, Single Rect, Dual Rect, Black Pearl, Bugera 333xl, Hot Rod Deluxe, 5150, 6505, EVH 5150III. Next up a Shiva head and 4x12 and that pig mother will sit here in my office at home and be thoroughly enjoyed! There is nothing more enjoyable than playing a LP in front of a 4x12. So are you denying me that joy of my soul because I'm not in a band? Being in a band is the last thing I want to deal with!

I'm also on my 3 Benz. Started with an 1987 300e, then a 2003 E350, and now a 2014 C350 Sport. Does that irritate you too?

What's he got against my mom,Peter Diezel and Les Paul ( R.I.P) ???

This thread has exposed the real truth of the matter...some of us are getting older, doing financially well, and are cars are now too nice to haul gear around in (I don't want to try to stuff a speaker cabinet into my BMW).

Whatever inspires ya to be creative. If it takes a Friedman for the at home player, fine! I don't need my quickrod, but it sounds kick ass and I jam at my buddy's house with it.

I will honestly say it.....I am jealous. I approve wholeheartedly.

I have the same type of obsession, abet a different style. Same guitar over and over in different finishes and tops. If you have tried it all and figured out what you loves most, best to get several for different tunings.....(OK, that's how I justify it in my head anyway)

I don't even have a problem with guys that aren't that good, just have a great time playing and collect killer gear because it looks awesome. What's wrong with buying musical instruments as artistic pieces? Nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry to ruin the dream, but it's a Photoshop.

LOL, this wouldn't pass muster with my wife. Thank God she knew I was a gearhead before we got married. Her suitcase used to sit on a row of 16 guitar cases lined up against the wall in my bedroom when she flew out to see me!

That said, there are now 30 guitars, plus 5 extra cases in my 3rd bedroom and in the shop. Mostly Les Paul, SG style, since I have about 19 of those out of the 30 guitars. Yes, I have a problem...but I'm managing the best I can with it.

Don't hurt me, please. I'm going for another cat scan on Monday for the issues I already have with my sinuses.

I have ten guitars and a Mesa Mk4 w/a 112, Splawn half stack, Marshall half stack, Tons of pedals ect. I don't play out anymore at this point. I could easily be happy with my Peavey Vyper and one guitar. Guitar is my main interest, some guys spend tons on photography equipment, motorcycle accessories, skiing, bar hopping, drugs, whatever. As long as my bills are paid I don't see a problem with it.

I don't gig but I've got 2 Suhr Moderns, a Kiesel Vader V7, Mark V:25, Bogner Uberkab and a Kemper. Whatever floats your boat man. Life is short. Enjoy the guitar any way you want.

You can get a BMW X5 for that.

Don't quite remember saying the line credited to me in your quote, but it's close enough to work.

Luckily, I don't need to worry about approval from anyone else; I'm my only child.
