I'm still waiting for that 7 I keep hearing about. :gethim:

I second the Ibanez 7620's, they are the best of the mid lined Ibanez models. I play a universe and the 7620 was every bit as good. I actually liked the neck joint better on the 7620. I believe there is also a prestige rg2027, that was the 7 string version of the rg2020 that could probably be found at around $1K.

My old guitar player had a Carvin 7 stringer, I don't recall the model though. That was a great guitar. The neck was smooth as silk, the frets were properly dressed (no sharp edges) and the floyd was great. I know the version he had (he bought it on the bay for $750), had a lot of extras; upgraded finish, gold hardware, pickup coil tapping. Honestly, it was a better guitar than my universe and for less money.

Floyd Models:

The Carvin ones vary too much in price for me to include them, but you can look into those as well. Remember that they use lower quality floyds on their guitars, and the pickup routes are non-standard.

Every Carvin that I've owned came with an OFR from the factory.

Not the 7 stringers.

What's the body design similar to on the 7 stringers? The Modern or Standard

It will be a Modern 7 string.

Floyd Models:

Ibanez RG1527
Ibanez RG7620

Non-Floyd Models:

Ibanez RG15271 (Japan model)
Ibanez RG7621
Ibanez Xiphos 7

That's a list you absolutely cannot go wrong with. Any Ibanez guitar can be great with the right pickups.

Eh, respectfully disagree. Ibeenhad stuff just sounds totally awful to me.

Care to share the sub $1k 7 string guitars that you think are better than Ibanez?

The first line of ESP LTD 7's that came out played really well. That was before you could actually get replacement pickups for 7 strings. The only thing available was EMG707's and they were rare as fuck.

If I were going to buy a 7 string, i'd try to find a white Ibanez RG7621.

Another vote for the Ibanez RG-7621. I have one and I like it. It's not the best out there but it satisfies
my need when I want to play that kind of stuff.

I'd rather have something like a Schecter, LTD, or even one of those Jackson COW's.

Own a Schecter C7 string through and RG1527, two different guitars. The Ibby neck is better but the stock pups have to go, Schecter came with Duncans. Hardware is about the same, had to replace both guitar's pup selectors after a while due to my hard slap changes. Pots on the Ibby are better.

All these guitars are pretty much on the same level imo, up to the user what works for him.

Considering I listed Schecters, how is my list bad? The LTDs I've played sounded thinner than my Ibanez guitars. I haven't played a COW, so I can't recommend them.

I didn't say your list was bad, I just said I don't like Ibeenhad shit. You know this.

I just revisited some Ibanez stuff and I really liked it. They arent the best but I played them for years before Ralphie turned me on to GMW's and never complained. For the money on the used Market, I dig them..

what exactly do you hate about them? I know that you dont like the pickups but thats an easy fix... what else?

95% of them are basswood and 95% of them have rosewood fretboards. I just don't think they sound good, even with better pickups. The paper thin necks are alright I guess, but I'd rather have something with a bit more thickness to it. A lot of their guitars are just really plain and boring to me as well. Just not my thing.

I have a RG7620...great guitar that I found locally on CL. I'm diggin the low pro edge 7. However, the Ibanez K7s look interesting as well: Dimarzio PAF pickups, mahog body...the only thing that suck is the lame as K7 logo. The Fountain Valley (Orange County) GC had a used blue K7 around 8 bills on their website. Tons of 7620s on ebay right now and I believe a cat on TGP has a mint blue RG7620 w/case listed at $650 right now. I'm bouncing around the idea of going all 7s....

I absolutely love my Agile Interceptor Pro, and it's cheap as dirt.
