Debating changing out the headshell on my MKIII++ for a different style, but not sure where to look for one. Googling just gives random old Reverb listings and forum posts from a decade ago.

Also open to suggestions so post up any pics of yours!

@Metalone72 (aka Scott) makes great headshells. His offerings are all tolex, but his quality is excellent and fairly priced. He's trustworthy and has a stellar reputation across communities Rig-Talk, and various Mesa Boogie FB groups, etc.. You can't go wrong with Scott.

Here's a pic of the last headshell he did for me. John Sykes ended up buying this amp. He said the headshell looked badass and was what caught his attention. After learning more about the amp (No Stripe DRG w/ 105pt & 3+ Bendinelli mod) he had to have it.

Off topic, but any chance you've got gut shots of the circuit board from before you sold it? I'm curious about the mod, I've got a no stripe with the 105 PT too!

Not who you asked, but I've got a 105PT NS as well and here's a shot from when it went to Mike B for a ++ mod.

I used to make head shells, but stopped because people are cheap fucks and completely unrealistic about how much it costs to build and ship one. Idiots were messaging me thinking I would build a headshell and send it to them for $60. :ROFLMAO: Dumb fucks

Just so I've got the right expectations, how much would you charge for one?

I got a custom 212 built & shipped for just over $500 so would expect a headshell to be less, but what the fuck do I actually know.

I need a headshell for a JP2C rackmount that I want to un-rackmount. Is that something I can get from Mesa or do I need to go aftermarket?

As mentioned above, Scott’s the guy you want to buy a headshell from. Top notch on every level.

Without knowing the current cost of the materials it's tough to say for sure, but for a head shell you need a couple of yards of tolex to start with. A couple of yards might do 3 head shells, but if someone wants a colour you don't have, you have to order two yards. You want decent quality, void free birch plywood, contact cement, disposable brushes, metal corners, rubber feet, a handle. There's wear and tear on tools. To do dovetails or dado joints you need a router or a table saw with dado blades. Then you have to figure in your time. I'm certainly not working for less than $30/hour, and a head shell probably takes a good 4 hours of labour. At a wild guesstimate, we're talking maybe $300-350 minimum. Then add in shipping.

Scott made a replacement head for my Mark IV short head and it's perfect, and he got delivered mush faster than expected.
he's very particular about exact measurements etc and very focused on his customers being satisfied with his work.

It's weird how some people expect you to give things away to them. While not exactly the same situation, this reminded me of someone who contact me on Reverb a few years ago.

Scott did the Mark IV headshell in my Sig. Perfect fit and finish. I went with leather corners, leather handle and chrome straps on top. Definitely recommend!

Wound up going with @Metalone72 and he did a sick job! Highly recommended to others.

The reverb pan is a bit tight and I'm starting to think it's after market given the spacing, but since I'll likely never use it I'm debating just taking it out entirely so I don't have to worry to much about overheating with all the cramped components.

That tolex looks great.

I just had Scott build me a new front baffle for my Mark IV. Arrives today. Great guy to work with.
