Who still gigs Peavey?

Just curious. The company as a whole gets a lot of crap these days for some of their business decisions, but some of the amps they've come out with actually sound better than you expect! I'm liking the ValveKing's and the 6505's... Anyone have first hand experience with the VK?

I use one at a Rehearsal spot with my bands. It's really not a bad amp at all. I really enjoy the tones I get out of it, although I'm not sure about what cab it's hooked up to. I could easily gig it if I had too. Like most Peavey amps, it's got some nice sounds in it.

Add in the price of theses things, and that's a whole lot of win.

I just said in another thread I did and would play my old Peavey 5150 half stack. In a second. Even in a small club where I can't open it up. I like the sound of a 4x12 behind me. Amp still kicks ass and is way better at rock tones than most think. Or at least admit too. I use as little gain as possible to get the sustain I need and usually get one of two comments. "I've never heard that amp sound that good"(I think it's the matching cab) or "I can't believe how little gain you use". Matching cab is the secret sauce. Way under rated cab. It's based on Ed's old Marshall with Greenbacks! C'mon! It's a good sounding cab. And I say the best cab for the 5150.

I've been looking at either the 6505 Mini with the greenback cab, 6505+ 112 combo and even the ValveKing Mini or the combo. I do play Sunday's at church and play in a southern rock/country band occasionally on the weekends. But my preference at home and what I prefer to play and listen to is hard rock and metal. Dilemma is finding the right amp for all applications. I actually dog the cleans/crunch of the 6505 but I am really surprised by the tones I've heard in clips of the VK.

-^^^^^^^^^^^-which peavey ya got?

I still have a 6505+, but I don't use it anymore. It's been out on loan to a friend back home in Pa. I still think my old Ultra was may favorite Peavey, and the only thing I've ever regretted selling. I used to have a XXX combo. I'm glad I sold that one lol.

I bought my 5150 pretty cheap and everytime I think of selling it (and how little I'd get for it) I plug in and that thought vanishes. Really fun to play.

I have several amps, but my main amp for gigging is still my 6505+ . once I get the new rig built around my KSR Gemini, I may start gigging it, but every time I use the 6505+ I second guess making the switch.

Dude, do it. I loved playing my 6534+ live, but once I made the switch to my Gemini for practice and live, iI was super happy. I ended up selling my Peavey to my other guitar player (or rather forcing him to) who's notorious for buying shit gear, now I get to hear BOTH my amps live. :D

Not many will agree but I do 100%. Loved my 5150 cabs with the 5150 head...pretty much the same mileage you've gotten. Heck the II, XXX, the JSX all sounded great with that cab in my experience. I had two that I beat the crap out of for 10 years till I moved back to Marshalls full time and finally got rid of them...actually, I didn't even get rid of them, they burned up in a fire at my bands rehearsal space where I had them in storage. :(

-unfortunately there are no more sleeper's, but for pennies on the dollar, the name PEAVEY is still like herpes, here's some of my favorite PEAVEY's

-ULTRA & ULTRA +
-VTM-(one of the best hot rodded 800's out there, even today)-
-BUTCHER-(first run)-
-ROCK MASTER-(kinda rare, everyone remember's the rack mount PRE-AMP thou)-
-5150-(the original block letter I think deserves its own category)-
-6505/6505+(probably on more metal tracks than any other amp ever)-

-(BIAS MOD IS MANDATORY FOR ANY PEAVEY AMP)-
-(UNDERRATED CAB's)-
-(SHEFFIELD GREENBACK CLONES KICK ASS)-
