Who wants to play a solo on Rig-Talk members only song?

Paul Gilbert did the picks on the makita trick back in the racer x days and then with mr big, then a decade later vh does that lame poundcake song using the same trick and he gets all the hype.

I guess vh figured it was time to blatantly rip someone elses gimmick for a change!

UPDATE!

It's gonna be done tonight. It's 20 minutes long, so I requested the upgrade on youtube to upload 20 minute videos, waiting for the reply. Does anyone know a place I can upload a 20 minute song? I don't think I can on soundclick.

hey James,

just thinking out loud here. Is it possible to split into two separate sessions at 10 minutes each? Or would that be a big deal/headache?

Does the studio or you have a dedicated server that could host it?

I do but I can't have people download a 20 minute song. A few years ago I posted up 11 tracks of Led Zeppelin in rehearsal writing songs for every record from II to Physical Graffiti and I had so many downloads my bill for the month was $1500. I'm scared if everyone downloads it that I will get slammed.

James,

Try Dropbox. It's free up to 2 Gigs. You can put the entire mix on there and share the download link. I've used it to share PT sessions with other people.

I'm aware of what Paul and Ed did...I didn't think Ralph actually had a Makita in the hotel room   So those are just terms for "shred" that this old-timer hasn't heard yet...got it :D

Actually, Ed's trick was completely different...he simply used the elctric motor over the pickup to create his sound...there was no contact with the guitar like Gilbert's gimmick.

I say you make this an annual thing!

... cause I ain't good enough yet.

But next year ....

Can't wait to hear the finished product!!!

wrong!

and paul did the motor over the pickups too.

OK, I see he actually runs the chuck against the strings...no picks though! ;)

although i didn't send jimmy L a solo, figuring it would be a 10 hour song and not wanting to play up against the monstrous likes of marky/curt/ant, i tried my hand at it today using the axe-fx digital out straight to garage band:

80's lick thief

rig:

tyler strat on the bridge holmes 450 pickup->cable->axe-fx plexi with tube drive pedal->stereo 4x12s with one 30 watt and one metal cab and cab air added at 2780hz->para eq cut at 160 and a hi shelf boost at 2532->dynamic delay/verb and a parallel octave below pitch shift blended in

sp/dif out of axe to 10 dollar radio shack sp/dif to optical converter to mac G5/garage band->itunes convert to mp3

I hear a little Hunter at :11

i tried to be as blatant as possible. :D

and i threw in the warren stretchy pinky slide lick for the complete 80's experience

in closing i hope to one day be as metal as a young japanese schoolgirl

Now THAT'S metal

Yeah, Aex Flouros hosted some jams back on HCAF and for these big ones he's split it up to 5 minutes each or so.

Same here. Maybe James's wife went into labor. If that's the case, good luck James!

I think James needs to get his priorities straight. Wife due to go into labor any minute now. Big deal. Having to find a new location for his studio business. Yawn. This is Rig Talk baby and we don't pay James this much money to have him screwing around with these other distractions when there is more pressing Rig Talk BUSINESS at hand. In this economy, there are thousands of studio owner/guitar freak applicants lined up to do free volunteer work for our forum's enjoyment. James better just watch himself or someday he will have to share the bitter story with his child of how he got sacked from Rig Talk for not doing us huge favors fast enough. :gethim:

That's funny. It reminds me of the Monty Python sketch where the Irish mom is standing at the sink doing dishes in her apartment filled with kids and a baby just falls out of her dress onto the floor. She says to one of the kids, "can you get that for me, dear?" :D
