I was driving down the road the other day (sounds like a song intro) and I got to thinking about how awesome the "Big Four" bands were and their impact of all hitting their stride around 86'-87'. There is always a conversation about who would have been a contender for the other band in the mix had it been "Big Five" instead. Was curious what you guys think.

For me, hands down it would be Testament. Bay Area, bad ass riffs, great solos and Chuck Billy's voice is perfect for this type of music. Some other bands thrown around have been "Overkill", "Exodus", "Death Angel" and others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Who do you think would be a good fit and even can be a newer band just to make things interesting. Doesn't matter how many albums, their sound, etc. I'm curious why different members like certain bands.

I am going with Overkill or Testament

For me, easily Testament. A close other for me would be Kreator. Both bands have released so many consistently good albums for a long time and are still great live. If Sepultura would re-unite if told it would be them, then I pick Sepultura!...lol

Everyone is going to say Testament. I’m going to say Kreator.

Could not agree more. I would go as far as replacing anthrax with testament and adding overkill as the fifth!!!

ABBA - Record sales champs and it would get a lot of people to shows to see the high gains.

I am all for removing Anthrax from the equation and replacing them With Testament.

My fifth would be Forbidden because they are great and deserve some love and never get it. Twisted in Form? Can I get a heavy metal amen?

Testament.

Anthrax pretty much always sucked IMO, especially the rap crap. I saw them when the "caught in a mosh" pit shit was big and they were ok and then I saw them with AIC, Megadeth & Slayer and everyone split when Anthrax came out. "I am the man" era, 1991 or so. The John Bush era was better.

I never understood anthrax as the fourth. They suck it hard.

I like the idea of making Testament part of the four and kicking Anthrax out altogether. Maybe even put Pantera as the 5th. Although I love Exodus and Coroner so either of those works. Depends upon timeframe/eligibility.

Anthrax in big four...NOT!

TESTAMENT

We can now close this thread.

Seriously, i would also replace Anthrax with them. Musicianship was ahead of most bands from that era with Testament.

As a fifth member i would choose Overkill. They paid there dues man. Years of decay and Horrorscope are classics to me.

The Big Four is all about album sales and popularity, so by that metric it'd have to be Testament or Kreator. If we're going purely by quality and personal preference, I'd pick Exodus.

Exodus or Testament

The only two serious contenders. Anthrax has only two front to back great albums (STD, ATL) while Exodus & Testament easily each have more than that. That alone is enough for Anthrax to get demoted.

Ok, we are not demoting Anthrax or I'll burn this forum to the ground.....LOL

I love Anthrax!! "Metal Thrashing Mad", "Be All, End All", etc., etc.

I don't know a lot about Kreator, other than hearing a song or two. I need to delve into that. If it was a newer band, I'd go with Power Trip. Man those guys have some great riffs.
