Why are decent Charvels so hard to find?

So any opinions on the MIM? Have to admit, that turn wheel for truss rod adjustments is a pretty nice feature.

Honestly, Charvel gave us two guitars. They gave me the USA San Dimas, because i'm not a huge fan of floating trems. Jim took the MIM SoCal. I set them both up and played them both extensively. They felt and sounded pretty much the same to me. However, as new as they are, they are both 2009 models.

I didn't think Charvel started making them in Mexico until 2012 or 13? If they are 2009 they should be USA or very early Japan I would think..

Anyway cool guitars!
The Pro Mods were made in the USA until later in 2010
They were made in Japan from late 2010 until sometime in 2013
Since sometime in 2013 they have been made in Mexico.

Based on what I see in the picture posted, those both look like recent Made in Mexico Pro Mods and NOT guitars from 2009.

First of all, no Pro Mods were made in Mexico in 2009 - there was no Charvel manufacturing done in Mexico until 2013. Second, I see no "Made in USA" under the Charvel Logo on either of those guitars. If either of them were USA 2009 guitars it would say "Made in USA" under the Charvel logo. All Japanese Pro Mods said "Made in Japan" under the Charvel logo.

Sorry guys. Yeah. Mine is a USA 2009. Has it written in the neck pocket. No markings in the Mexican one. It's just obviously before the new truss rods were implemented. My bad.

They were brand new old stock. I guess Charvel got sick of them laying around or something.

Can you post a picture of the headstock? Does it say "Made in U.S.A." under the Charvel logo? Maybe it does, it didn't look like it in the picture you posted, but it's small...

The green one is for sure a 2013 or newer MIM and not from 2009.

My Charvel is at my practice spot. It says made in usa or whatever under logo. The other one says mim under logo. I have no idea what year it is.

If you zoom in on this one, you can kinda see that there is something written there. :)

Sounds good - If it actually says "Made in U.S.A." (and it looks like it says something in the latest picture you posted) under the logo on the headstock, your black one could be a 2009 as they told you, or a 2010.

The only other thing it could possibly say is "Made in Japan"...

The Made in Mexico Charvel Pro Mods don't say anything under the Charvel logo on the headstock. They all just have a plain Charvel logo, with no writing under them. The plate says "Made in Mexico", but not the headstock decal. I'd love to see a picture of the green one's headstock because if it really says "Made in Mexico" under the Charvel logo on the headstock (which I doubt), it's one of a kind...

I haven't seen that guitar since the day we got em. Just looked at his instagram and yes... nothing under logo on headstock. Just remember it says it somewhere. Maybe back of headstock?

Probably. It was made between 2013 and 2016...

Every time i'm in the market for one of these, they are almost impossible to find. Customs shops left and right for $1300-$1700, until it's time to actually purchase one....

Also, are the Custom Shops much better than the USAs?
You should also check out Chubtone guitars..Curt(Chubtone) is a longtime Charvel player and dealer, and is offering custom shop quality at around 1000-1700 new depending on options. You can have the original pre pro neck profile or the compound radius profile. Or whatever you want I'm sure.

That is a good option, their stuff appears to be quality. But then again, for a bit more (or maybe the same price), and some patience/luck, I can run into a used Charvel Custom Shop...

At this point, I'm seriously considering a Fender YJM and just modding that to fit a bucker.

Other than the name on the stock and a slightly different peg head I would put a Chubtone next to a CS Charvel any day. If you are a flipper I can see your point if you are worried about resale. If you really want an late 70s early 80s Charvel vibe give Chubtone a try.

I am actually considering one of the cheap overseas white Joe Deplantier Charvel Signature models. Am I wrong for liking this guitar? :D

I like that black one with the maple neck!

I love my two MIM San Dimas models. I've tried the older MIA and USA versions, and the current USA Selects, and these are right there with them. I have no desire to change anything on them. The necks are glorious.
