Why buy ONE McCarty, when you can buy TWO?

I salute your gear whoredome.

I want an SC245 myself...not so much for the singlecut body but more for the LP-ish control layout.

Good call Chris! I had a gold one and a Violin Amber with Soap Bars... They were my man gig axes for several years before I stopped playing out. I so regret selling the gold top...

I just realized something. It looks like the goldtop I'm getting is ALL gold. Is that right? The back, the neck, the headstock, etc...? Not a natural back like this one?

Wow, never seen one like that, that would not be the norm at all. They are usually just like the pic you posted. That had to be special ordered that way, Did the guy buy them new? Seems like he would have pointed out that was a special order if he was the guy that did it. More money in your pocket! More justification for the purchase! I have to wiegh all that stuff out, My wife is a little less understanding than yours. I am under fire as we speak from my last INCREDIBLE purchase! Congrats, you may have somthing much cooler than you thought to start with. The tremonti pup is not bad for heavy stuff, you will probably like it better than the stock Mc. in the bridge of the other one.

Nice Chris!

hehehe... I probably would've done the exact same thing...
Bought 'em both!

Keith

I'm surprised this many people are commenting on the goldtop! When I had a goldtop Les Paul, none of my friends really liked it. Even my wife thought it was ugly. I love goldtops myself!

I hate to point out the obvious for you here but bro, it was a frigging LP. Of course she thought it was ugly because she knows LP's suck!

Nice score. It will be interesting to see whether your opinion of PRSi has changed...

I'm not a PRS guy, but that goldtop w/the bird inlays looks awesome, IMO. Nice score!

Wow! The seller didn't mention anything about the goldtop being special ordered or anything, but I'm not sure if he's the original owner either. I did notice the gold headstock and thought that seemed a little different, but didn't question it, because I don't know alot about PRS guitars.

I did just email the seller to see if the entire guitar is gold or whatever. I never thought to ask that! So they didn't make them that way unless they were special ordered, huh? If so, that's pretty cool! Really cool!

you can't see the sides, but the back of the headstock is gold so I'd guess the entire back is.

Congrats!! That always happens to me too. I'll be looking for an amp, and can't find any at a good price, then I'll find 2 or 3 in a row WAY below what they normally sell for and I'll have to buy all of them.

Chris,

If you send an email to PRS with the serial number, they will be able to tell you if it was a special order.

Great score!

The more you diss LPs the closer I know you are to admitting their supremacy :D

Meh... I didn't even play Steve's Edwards LP at the jam because, well, LP's suck. :poke:

Even if it's available as an option, unless the retailer ordered it that way, and stocked it, he still had to request it, and wait for it. I Think they will do whatever they are asked to do. It is possible that it was a solid paint job and was spec'ed gold maybe? No matter what, Its the only solid gold one I've seen. Ever . Have seen some other colors that did cover the whole guitar, But PRS's dont look good at all that way IMO, The gold one is a completley different matter, it oozes pure class! I think its actually making me horny! Is that wrong??

Nice!

FYI...those stock McCarty pickups are going to be a lot weaker than those in the goldtop, so keep that in mind. I really don't care for the McCarty pickups at all. I can't recommend the Suhr Aldrich's enough.

That McCartyburst looks great...so classy.

Now that I've had my McTrem for awhile, I want a Swamp Ash Special with a maple board!

You have a McCarty with Aldrich pups in it? What do you think ? I'm putting a set of reverse zebra Aldrich's in one as we speak, can't wait to hear 'em !! What are you playing them through?

Thanks! Yeah, I was just reading that the Tremonti 'bucker is supposed to be super hot. We'll see how it all works out. I'm open to giving them all a shot. I've read that the stock McCarty pickups are dark and vintage sounding, which actually sounds appealing to me.

Either way, I have a BBQ, DiMarzio VPAF Hot, and Duncan '59 model sitting here to try in the bridge of these guitars if I want. ;)
Everything you just listed is hotter than the stk Mc's, But they do have a vintage, thick thing going on. Maybe an option to what you already have. If you really like the stock one's, I have a stk Mc. bridge pup you can have, not going to use it, its almost brand new, to change out the tremonti back to stock. If you want it PM me your address, I'll mail it to you. I did not care for them

Cuz you were scared you would have to buy one afterwards :)
