Lost interest because of where the hard rock scene was headed. Got tired of dealing with flakes. Didn't have a unique vision that I thought could succeed at the time. Thought band managers were blood sucking leeches. Didn't want to end up a starving musician. Realized "making it" had a lot to do with luck too and didn't want to rely on that...
Luck. Sure is true.
Preparation + opportunity = Luck.
Some had preparation but no opportunity.
Some had the nerve to create opportunity, but lacked preparation.
Some had preparation and opportunity, but their musical style sucked or wasn't liked by the opportunity.
My musician friends have had some limited success's professionally.
One buddy plays bass for Survivor. He's been in Survivor much longer than the original bass player.
But, his tenure came a good bit after their big success.

He stills lot's of fun with it.
Another buddy plays keyboards in Eddie Money's band. My buddy's a cool guy, very talented and really enjoy's the gig.
I was very surprised to find out how much touring Eddie Money does.
Another friend, although I haven't know him for that long, is the singer and guitar player for the Steepwater band.
Cool dude and great guitar player. Cool slide guitar player. Gotta get him to show me some slide work.
I used to be able to play slide decently years ago, but stopped and don't know why.
And an old acquaintance from high school played drums for the Reverend Horton Heat band for about 12 years. He left the band in 2006. I haven't heard from that dude in like 8 years. Reminds me to look him up.
I've jammed with all those guys except for the drummer, and was in a recording band project with the bass player.
We still get together and jam from time to time.
Those guys still play in various bands in the area.
