Why is it acceptable to goop pedals, but not amps?

Fools goop their products. It makes people want to degoop them and expose the (often) complete lack of originality or blatant theft of earlier designs. Anyone that really wants to get into clone deterrence would start building and installing red herring components and relabeling parts. Make it so that every part needs to be removed and measured in order to deterime what is happening. Add dummy components. If you want to goop, make a module that you solder in with off-board wires so the amp can be returned to stock without needing a massive amount of degooping work. The photos of cameron amps I have seen are disgraceful. If I received one of those amps from him I would immediately degoop it and post every detail of the mod. If it wasn't gooped I would surely let it be.
Re-labeling, red herring components, dummy components... All a waste of time... just like the gooping...

Steve

Exactly. Huge waste of time.
If one were to crack open a Soldano, Marshall, Bogner, Splawn, Budda, Peavey etc... There's no goop. Components are clear as day.

Sorry i should have explained more clearly. The point of all that nonsense is just to make the would-be cloner have to really work if they want to copy the amp. Diminish their ability to quickly figure it out and get some lulz along the way.

Yep. All you can do is slow down a guy set on reverse engineering whatever you're doing, no way to stop it and no reason to butcher an amp trying IMO.

I like the Fryette crop circle patterns on the boards approach. Give them shiny objects to distract them while you kick back and laugh.

Meh, anyone who's going to spend the time to reverse-engineer a circuit knows what they're doing... and probably has access to a DMM and can measure values... ;)
It's just silly.
