How come I've seen so many Randall Thrashers for sale in the classified and even a bunch on Craigslist and Ebay? Did they not live up to the hype? Are they not as good as amps like Diezel's, Fryette's, Rhodes, or other boutiques?

Personally, I wouldn't touch a 1800$ Chinese amp with a 10 foot pole

No but you'll buy the computer n cell phones n TV sets from china. You fkn guys need to get over this Chinese bullshit. They have the market in electronics. Problem is some drunk fkn ass that works in ur amp in the USA came to work hung over so now u get a half assed job on it. The Chinese have strict n no tolerance in there places of employment from what I've seen on dateline 20/20 or read in magazines.

Chinese products suck in direct comparison to the boutiques, there is nothing to get over, A/B and youll see. For me its the iron quality in the transformers, now do some researxh on chimese metallurgy, the purity levels are jokes at times.

I'm one of the people that listed mine before finally returning it. Bottom line for me was I wanted a third channel as I kept going back and forth between different gain settings and got tired of turning knobs. The gain channel was surprisingly versatile and was definitely capable of getting enough saturation. I think what is throwing some people is that unlike 99% of the amps out there the full sweep of the gain knobs is usable and the amp doesn't really get super saturated until you have them turned up past the point most people would use. If I hadn't looked at some of the suggested settings in the manual I wouldn't have realized this or found the couple of settings I like. It is also anything but limited to thrash and extreme metal tones, despite the marketing.

Since somebody mentioned it being picky about cabs, I was running through an Orange loaded with EVM12L Classics.

I will likely bring home a Randall 667 when they're available as this was definitely a fun amp to play around with.

As for the ZOMG CHINA! arguments, as for actual quality it is complete crap. You can certainly get complete junk built in China for cheap prices, but you can also get high quality manufacturing done if you're willing to pay for it. From my brief experience with the Thrasher, seems like Randall was willing to pay for it. If you don't want to buy something made in China for patriotic or labor related reasons that's fine, but the idea that it is impossible to get something quality built in China is ridiculous.

350$ for a Squier Classic Vibe, I've got no problem with that
1800$ for an amp to which there are many alternatives, no thanks
If they had priced it at 1000$ maybe, but I would still compare it to a Made In USA 6505

I can't buy an american made cell phone, we have no choice on personal electronics. China ruined that market for American workers. American, European, and Japanese manufacturing is unmatched, period!

Like I have said, learn and understand our true relationship with China. We should not be doing business with an enemy.

1. It's a Randall

2. It's made in China

3. I'm probably not the only one that doesn't like the whole Fortin/Randall collaboration. If I want a Fortin amp, I would like to buy a Fortin amp.

You make an excellent point.

So are all Randall amps built in China? 667, Satan, Diavlo?

I might buy a little Diavlo for home use, they are priced alright but the thrasher is too expensive for what it is.

Part of the cost of the amp is for Fortin's work. I am sure he is getting a cut of the profits in some way shape or form. 1800.00 is a lot of money for a amp made in china. 1800.00 dollars is a lot of money for a EVH amp made in Mexico. 2800.00 dollars is a lot of money for a Marshall made in England or Vietnam or where ever they are made these days. I have had zero luck with Randall amplifiers with the build quality. I have returned three amps about ten years ago because every one of them died and I pledged to my self never to by a Randall again which sucks because I think they are making some really cool stuff right now. I wouldn't by the same car that blew up three times correct? I have also owned some Marshall amps that have been bad build quality. The thing with mass production amps, guitars ect. is that the craftsmanship is taken out of it with machines that can make 1000 amps or guitars a day. Mass manufacturing is taking the mojo/life/soul out of the guitar and amps made today. If you have 1800.00 for an amp wait another year and spend the money on an amp that is made with real human hands from the beginning to the end. Not mass produced manufacturing no matter where it is made.
