+1 With a slight amount of effort you can find used that's in great condition for much cheaper. Especially in this economy, if you have the money and can wait a little while, you can get stuff for significantly cheaper.

I am not sure what Fender is doing with their prices, their amps went up too. Fender has a couple of cool amps out there now, but at these prices other options are looking good, like all their SF amps...

For $1700 ish you can get a MusicMan Morse Y2D or Axis. I take either of those guitars any day over a Strat.

Really? I liked the few I've picked up. So much that I may end up with one, not sure...

I tried a couple, and they sounded nice. I'm more of a super-strat guy, but if I were in the market, I'd definitely be looking at them.

The body was $89.
Paint was like $20-30... it was painted so I didn't really need to strip it down and re paint it, but it was a great experience.

JB $0 had it laying around
'05 San Dimas Neck + tuners + locking nut + retainer bar $350 - That was the most expensive piece right there. But was readily available on Ebay with the hardware. Neck is brand new and the fretwork is perfect. Didn't need leveling or anything. Easiest install ever! LOL!
Misc. hardware (neck plate, bolts, side jack plate (had a jack laying around) and wire.. shit I dunno like $15?

The only thing I have ever bought new was my Explorer, and I don't even think it was new. (GC, pedal off shit at new prices. , but it is so nice. )

Really? I liked the few I've picked up. So much that I may end up with one, not sure...

i've played about 3-4 of them, all at the same location mind you, and all were shit. they played like an old rusty john deer tractor. for $1k, no way in hell. i think some of the newer classic series squiers are better guitars.

I've purchased all my recent guitars new. For Rickenbackers, I've only purchased new. Personal preference, and besides, the used ones are going for nearly as much, sometimes more, than new! Why bother?

I looked at used before buying the new Iceman that arrived yesterday. I got a new one for less than a used one on evilbay. I noticed the place where I purchased the Iceman raised the price, think I may have found a price that was old, needing to be updated.

Too many abused instruments out there IMO. I try to keep my instruments in good shape, but if its going to be abused, I can do that myself. I'll buy used for non Rics though (unless I know the person, or have a chance to try the Ric out first)

Regarding Fenders, I nearly purchased an American Tele in Blizzard Pearl back in January before the Feb price hike, but found a new Ric instead. The Ric cost more, but, I love Rics. Now, with the basic Fender prices approaching Ric territory, I'd just get another Ric
