I bought a brand new 2008 3-tone sunburst American deluxe strat last June at a local mom & pop for $979. I think the owner thought it was just a standard american and not a deluxe. I had no intentions of buying a guitar that day but at that price....new ones at that time were selling in musicians friend for 1229!

Really? I liked the few I've picked up. So much that I may end up with one, not sure...

I tried a couple, and they sounded nice. I'm more of a super-strat guy, but if I were in the market, I'd definitely be looking at them.

My buddies store had 8 of them and they looked pretty cool. That said, none of them felt right...they all completely missed the mark of the "worn in " feel that a good relic has. Top it off with uninspiring tones, and you what what I think is an overpriced piece of shit.

I'm just finishing a record and we used my Road Worn Tele (with Lollar Special T's) on and the tracks are insane. Mostly through a Friedman modded Super Tremolo, Herbert and 2 channel dual rec. That guitar is great sounding and I personally love the way it plays.

Honestly I think at the end of the day a lot of people will play the guitars their hero's played, as trite as that may sound. I would play a Les Paul over and Anderson, Suhr, Schecter etc.... Maybe I'm just a dork but I'm not one of those guys who's a Strat guy but plays a G&L, ain't ever gonna happen. People will buy Fenders.

I don't know much about the newer Fender guitars, other than the custom shop and signature axes. But depending what your looking for, the reissue series strats from the mid 80's to early 90's were awesome quality, affordable as well as the early to mid 80's Jap strats. If i were to shop, i would be looking out for those in the used market. It is pretty ridiculous how they are jacking up these prices.
