Wizard Modern Classic vs. Fortin Bones

has anyone played both of these amps. How do they compare. I currently have a Wizard Modern Classic 100W to use through next week - so I know how that amp is - just wondering how the Fortin compares, because it is alot cheaper. From the videos, it seems like the Fortin can get a little heavier than the Wizard. Plus the Wizard is insanely loud. I didn't think it started to sound good until you hit about 3 on the dial.

Yup, different animals for sure. Wizard is definitely more vintage sounding and feeling with more grit to the tone. Bones can definitely get some plexi-ish tones as well but has a modern/vintage mixed vibe to it.

If you want to 100 % nail authentic old Marshall tones with more gain (not ultra saturated) go with the Wizard.

If you want the ability to dial in your tone with some Marshall attributes (old and new school) with more sustain, gain, flexibility, etc the Bones is a better choice.

Bones master is really good, it'll sustain much more at low levels but ultimately the amp can get just as loud, or very close to the Wizard with the same tubes.

Cool. Thanks. This is more like what I'm after. Of course the brootz the the Natas offers is typically what I go for. How tight is the bass response of the bones?

Very tight, but not as tight as natas will be. Different amp, different application. Bones can match VHT tightness without that dry quality.

Interesting as I thought the Wizard I got to play a few weeks ago sounded great at all volumes. Also it can definitely nail the vintage Marshall up to Modded Marshall, but the high gain channel gets very modern with super articulate low end. Kind of reminded me a bit of a VHT but not quite as sterile as the VHT's seem to me. It is always interesting to see what others think of amplifier tone, etc...

BTW everything I have heard in clips of Fortins are excellent! The Natas would be the most extreme metal amp I bet and the bones would be seriously cool as well!

Good luck with your decision!

It sounds alright at lower volumes, I guess I meant it really sounded best when it was louder. I don't think its very modern sounding. Actually, some of the newer VHT ULs I've owned/played (with the black buttons) seem alot more saturated/gainy and alot tighter than this amp. Definately not sterile. Of course I love what the eq does to the UL.

I just got an ENGL Fireball 100W for straight up metal - so I wouldn't mind having something like the Bones - but if I like that I'm sure I'd get a Natas too.

Where did you get the FB100? GR?

How do you like it compared to the Fireball?

I'll take a wild guess and say he got it from Giles (Moshaholic).

I got it from Josh Sage. Should be here early next week. I'm looking forward to seeing how it compares to the 60W FB. I've had 3 of those. I love that amp, but it always seems to be the one to get sold when GAS arises.

Guitar Res. isn't getting their first ENGL shipment for another few weeks. They are getting a FB100, a Powerball and one of the Pro cabs I believe.

Gah, I remember you saying Giles was going to hang onto his for another week or something like that and thought you snagged it from him.

One thing I noticed from the pics Giles posted of his were that the transformers looked way better and more of a normal size than the original Fireball.

The original FB transforms were like 9v batteries.

I was going to buy his, but he changed his mind. So I got one from Josh. Then he PM'd me this morning and said he now needed to sell it - so his is back on the market.
