I can think of two times that my GAS was severe. After I had a car wreck, and had to sell off all my gear, I was dying to get an amp after being ampless for over a year. It was right around the time of the Elmwood Modena. I contacted a guy on the forum who was a dealer, and eventually got one. It took a while though, and I eventually got a demo model, so it cost a bit less. At the time, those Modena's were over 3k!! I saved a few hundred bucks and got that demo model, I didn't want to wait any longer. I was dying to get that amp, so I told him that I would take it. I was selling pedals/speakers/mixers/etc to get the amp. I had already sold all my guitars and amps except for one guitar that had too much sentimental value to part with. I saved and scraped for a solid 3 months to get that amp, and eventually ended up liking the M90 better than the M60, but they were cool amps.
Around 7 or 8 months ago I was at a friends house and had a magical moment with his J Custom. It played and sounded magnificent. So, I decided right there and then that I must have a J Custom. I searched and scoured the internet for the right J Custom. I started taking any work I could get. (I am in physical therapy most days so I have to find work when I can) I started dog sitting for my neighbor, watched my neighbors 6 year old kid about 7 or 8 times, house sat(best job by far of all the jobs I did to get cash for the J Custom), and eventually I had enough to score a J Custom. I got a really nice blue top/no fretboard inlays/ J Custom and after all that, I decided it was not the must have guitar I thought it was!! I am usually pretty mild mannered when it comes to gear acquisition, but for some reason with the J Custom, I felt as if I was in a hurry and needed it immediately. Oh, I remember what made it worse!!! I was looking at videos on youtube with J Custom's and came across a Rick Graham vid of him playing an awesome J Custom, and he was killing it, and that made my G.A.S. quite a bit worse. These two times especially, I kid you not, it occupied my thoughts at least 50% of my waking hours. I was obsessing on that Elmwood and the J Custom. It turned into a full blown mission!!
you guys ever get it that bad, where it consumes most your thoughts and actually interferes with other parts of your life because you have checked out and are not paying attention to what you are supposed to?
lets hear it!!! bur, think of those times when you get a new amp/guitar and you plug in and it is just magical!! it is amazing getting one of those pieces of gear that you cant stop playing. for example, I have a Gower Rockmonster here and I have put in 6 to 8 hours a day this weekend alone, no matter how you eq this thing it just sounds great. It is an amazing, amazing amp. I know I have said this at least 4 or 5 times now, but it is true. Everything about it rules. Anyone in the san fran bay area that wants to check it out, let me know!!
