Would a JVM be a good addition to my rig?

Hey everyone. I have been searching the net, trying to find as many clips and such of the Marshall JVM 410H. from what I can see/ hear, it would be a killer amp. Here's the idea though.I play modern hard rock type of music, and want different amps for studio applications, etc. I currently have a Mesa Roadster, Bogner XTC 101B, and a 78 Marshall JMP 50 watt. How well does the JVM fit in with this mix? I'm thinking that the Roadster and JVM together would cover A LOT of ground.

What are your opinions on the JVM?

Thanks for the help!!

IMO the Roadster and JVM have things in common, maybe too much to own both unless money is no object. I bet OD1 orange and the recto channel on the roadster mixed together would sound damn good though.

I'm sure you could get some cool sounds by blending together the amps you mentioned with the JVM. However, I would maybe think about a Bogner Shiva or Diezel Einstein instead of the JVM. Just my .02 :)

What Scott said  I have no problems with them. Sometimes they get a bum rap here, but I have quite a few Marshalls, and I like mine. Great amps. They are a little different than models in the past, but thats what I like about them. Really versatile, great reverb, really good cleans. A little more compressed at high gain, but I'm OK with that. Mix well with MESA's. Try some out, you may find everything you need in the 210, and save some cash.

Nah, get a Mark V. It craps all over the JVM. It has REAL reverb for one. It's MORE versatile than the JVM. It SOUNDS better than the JVM. It SOUNDS great at all volumes. It's just a way better amp. I didn't like the JVM distortion. The orange channel sounds too trebly. You can't dial it out. The Red channel gets muddy. In fact, the JVM sounds muddier than the DSL. I think the DSL is a better sounding amp.

Yeah, your best bet is the Mark V man. If you're going Marshall, JCM800 or Plexi is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned.

All subjective opinion.

Just so you know the reverb is a DSP studio type reverb that makes my MK IV's reverb sound like crap.

Sounds like someone hasn't played the Mark V yet.

This should be good, both Danyeo and Sixstrings (if it's the same guy from TGP) tend to state their opinions in an inflammatory manner.

It sounds like you just like to start shit. First off, you don't know me. You never met me. Secondly, how do you know Danyeo and I won't get along? We both like Mesas for starters so that's one thing in common. Some advice for you - don't be a troll.

You've "met" me on TGP but I don't use the same moniker there, no need to get hostile just having fun. You are the the same guy though I can definitely tell now.

Not that I really care to draw this out any further, but you either have a VERY good inpersonator on TGP or you're straight up lying.

A simple search bears it all out, right down to the eerily similar fashion in which you state your opinion of the Mark V.

I just noticed the "sixstrings" over there is suspended   , so you did use TGP just not currently.

I'll gladly apologize if you are not the same person, but I just don't believe it the posting style and mannerisms over there are dead on to your style unless you are or have an impersonator.

I think the JVM is an incredible amp that can handle just about anything. Very versatile. It's truly the best Marshall has to offer IMO. And the other guitarist in my old band had a Roadster and our sounds blended great...huge sound. OD1 alone is worth owning the amp. Amp sounds great with 75's, 30's, and 25's.

I'm not going to slag other amps in order to justify the JVM...there's a shit ton of great amps out there and the JVM is right up there with Diezel, Fryette, Bog...no doubt in my mind and I've owned enough of them to know.

Dude there are billions of people on the Internet. What makes you think you can go out among millions of forum users and match it up to someone else? Hey genius, I hope you realize how pathetic and uncool this shit is. Don't be calling people out like that.

What, are you a kid? How old are you? 14? Stop being a douchebag. No one gives a shit who is on the Internet as long as they have something worthwhile to offer on the forum. I suggest you take a step back and try being cool. You'll make more friends that way.

Anyway...

To the OP, sorry about that douchebag. What I was saying about the JVM is what I finally concluded about it after owning a 410H, 215C, and 210C for a couple of years. One thing that really bugged me about it was how muddy it sounded. The red channel just wasn't real useable in my opinion. The orange channel was pretty cool but nowhere near as good as a real JCM 800. Too damned trebly and thin sounding without a lot of gain.

I hated the digital reverb. I did like the programmable footswitch and modes though. That's pretty cool. The only useful channel on that amp was the clean channel and plexi modes which sounded awesome with my OD9. That amp takes pedals really well and has some cool direct out features and effects loop.

All this being said, my love for the JVM went out the window when I bought a Mark V and put some EL34's in there. That's why I suggested that amp because it offers far better tone. In my opinion, if you want Marshall tone, get a JCM 800 or plexi or DSL.

Sounds like someone can't dial in a simple to use amp, and uses crap speakers.
The JVM is about the most versatile amps made that covers a lot of ground. And since it's basic footprint is identical to the vintage JCM800's circuit.

But, back on topic. I think it would add a nice swiss army knife of tones to the setup the original poster has. Excellent cleans, great vintage Marshall tones, Super tight high gain without the mud. And 12 channel choices can cover a lot.

And I course the flipside to your opinion is mine...which I love the JVM. Best Marshall I've ever owned.

And the other flipside is...not fan of the Mark V. Now I'm not saying that it's not a great amp...the Mark V is a fantastic amp but just not for me.

Frankly the Mark V and JVM are very different sounding amps...neither is better or worse. Just different taste for different folks.

LOL! So you think you're a better player than me? Let your fingers do the talking boy. By all means, please show me how to use an amp if you're that good.

I also use a Mesa Boogie 2x12 with Celestion Vintage 30's as my main cab. I guess those are crap speakers to you. How many JVM's have you owned? I've owned 3 for two years and used them as my main amps for a while, so I don't know what you think you're talking about but I'd love to hear your expertise. Please post a link to your sound clips.

What I said about the JVM isn't far from the truth even to JVM lovers. I think you'd be in the minority to describe the JVM as "super tight high gain without the mud." That sounds a lot more like a Fryette or ENGL than the JVM dude.

By the way, I own a JCM 800 and JCM2000 DSL 100 have directly compared them to the JVM 410H. Certainly you can dial in all the Marshall amp sounds with the JVM, but they do not sound as good as the real amps. In fact, I doubt more than a handful of people who have owned both amps would say the JVM sounds better than the JCM 800.

As far as I'm concerned, you can dial amps all day but if you can't get the tone with your hands then how you dial an amp is for shit.
