Would this irritate you or am I being irrational?

So my place of work is doing this find the Christmas Owl (whatever the fuck that is) game. It's one of those follow the clues games where clues are hidden around and one clue points to the next.

I have some decorations hanging outside my office and they decided to hide one of the clues in a stocking. These are my personal decorations I brought from home. I'm irritated because no one bothered to ask my permission to use my personal belonging for their game. Now I have everyone coming around fucking with my stuff looking for the clue.

In all likelihood I would have said sure go ahead and hide it there, but they didn't have the curtesy to ask first. The way I was raised you don't use/touch someone else's stuff without permission no matter how trivial the item is. Is it unreasonable to expect the same consideration shown to me? In my eyes it would be like having people over at your house, someone says I heard you play an instrument, and next thing everyone's fucking around with all your guitars.

So would this bother any of you, or is being annoyed with this a little irrational?

Are these like mom's heirloom ornaments or something? Maybe you should come help me haul and split and stack firewood. It's live oak and I'm splitting it by hand so it's def a good time. You'll get a renewed sense of focus on what is worth trifling over.

Etiquette is a lost art that is both the parent's fault and entities that have driven society to hate each other, teach entitlement, and poor communication skills.. While I don't know all of the details, I agree with how you feel. I rarely hear please and thank you outside of my household. People are so into themselves that they've become oblivious to others. I used to think people were just being assholes, but now I feel that so many truly don't know any better and just lack basic manners that would seem like common sense to nearly every culture on Earth. Although, they could still just be assholes.

It would irritate me to begin with to have something like that at work. I would politely tell them that I do not wish to participate in such drivel. I'm here to work and that's what I would like to do, then go home and forget about all you useless parasites.

Don't hang the stocking if you don't want the Christmas cheer!
It's the only way I can get Santa to come down my chimney. Glad the kids only saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus...

Sounds like you could use a change of scenery.

IME, don't bring anything into the office / workplace unless you don't mind people f*cking with it, breaking it, vandalizing it or even stealing it.

I don't miss working in an office (20+ years working remote).

When I did have an office or cubicle, I never "personalized" it with any kind of decorations, pictures, toys, figures, etc. during holidays or regular days. Co-workers would often comment that if it wasn't for the papers, manuals, etc., no one would know the space was assigned.

As HR grew more draconian in corporate America, the less I shared about myself and interacted with co-workers unless it was directly work related. Worked well so far.

Exactly. I have nothing in my office. I could walk out and it was like I was never there to begin with. I worked at a startup. It was a nice friendly IT environment. The Pres and Vice pres would sit down and shoot the shit with us daily. Full paid lunches on Friday (no limit) and 5k xmas bonus.

Then it got sold and we got an HR department and an employee manual. That was the end of the company pretty much. I miss working remote sometimes, but I find that I eat too much when at home. I just suffer through the day at this job and try to figure out how to make 9 hours go by.
