I want one. I have been jazzed for any new amp in a long while...this one is doing it ;)

A few pedals thru the front end. No built-in boost. Power Reduction at 9:00, which is pretty low

Sounds nice and fat.
What pedals did you use?

I was testing a BSM Treble Booster. I ran it into an OD (XTS Precision Multi-Drive) then into the amp

As much as I like the new Splawn amps I have tried, I think this new Marshall is one of the sweetest tones I have heard in years. It takes pedals well, which is great since my band plays some heavier tunes by Metallica, Tool and Alice in Chains.
Wish it had a clean channel though. :(

You have the preamp gain department covered, time to get one of the best sounding marshalls to come out in years

They are a good bang for the buck. I was surprised that the onboard attenuator actually doesn't sound like an external attenuator at all. It doesn't compress or muddy up the amp like one would expect. Not sure why they felt the need for reverb, noise gate and boost though. But, it can work as a completely stand alone and versatile amp and leave the pedal board at home for simplicity.

Brent sent me one the other day. Looking forward to comparing to my AFD100, as well as my 72 Superlead.

The YJM100 sure sounds like an amp I'd love to have. There's one thing I'd like to ask the guys who've had it/played it: does an eq in the fx loop work as a solo boost? The reason I'm asking this is that we had an AFD100 in the band for a few months and this solution didn't work at all with it. I think it came down to the EPA and not having headroom to boost at all.

I received this head and played it for several hours this weekend. I have a 14 day return period.

It sounds like a plexi to me . A super characteristic is how well this amp cleans up via touch and volume knob turns with or without the boost engaged. The clean tones are quite nice...beautiful. Otherwise I concur with others: the power scaling is incredible, reverb is nice, boost is great fun.

Noise gate works very well and the only minor gripe is when you clean up a lot with your volume knob and let notes ring, the gate has to be set quite low so it does not cut the notes' tails off. It seems similar but not identical to my MXR Smart Gate in front of an amp.

I have not used the fx loop and probably won't.

It's easier to get great old school sounds than sounds from the 80s and later on. In a heartbeat I replicated --to my ear-- those wonderful warm live Hendrix tones, esp the Montreaux performance and "Like a Rolling Stone". Thin Lizzy super easy. With the boost engaged the YJM100 can get some metal tones in the Jake E Lee territory, some of the less high gain spandex metal tones and into DiMartini territory . But Lynch type cutting liquid mercury dripping leads and Van Halen are tones I have not coaxed out of the head . You can get great sustain and smooth feedback at low volumes if you like. Of course louda' is betta'.

I don't think it gets the great high gain lead tones or harmonic richness/complexity of the Soldano SLO or Friedman Marsha but I ass/u/mek it's designed too either. Those are not Yngwie tones and this is his signature amp. However, the moniker does an injustice to how verstaile this amp is. It's great for some metal, hard rock, blues, classic rock .... And to reiterate the amp can be used anywhere from the bedroom to a coffee shop to a full club venue because the power scaling is that good!

It's not the type of amp I gravitate towards but it's very cool sounding. I got it for a pretty good price on Evilbay so it may stay. I don't have a lot of guitar amps compared to some of the stuff I've seen on RT.

Is is a pain that some of the controls are on the back of the amp?

I don't think so. Maybe for quick volume adjustments on the fly you'd reach back to adjust the attenuator volume since adjusting the two masters on the front changes your tone. Otherwise it is mostly forget and set IMHO. Even for living playing (which I have not done with this head), you'd probably adjust reverb, gate, boost gain &volume, and attentuation to taste and leave it there.

For me this head would be for home musical masturbation. I need a two channel amp for the songs my current band performs.

stop it guys. you're fueling my GAS for a yjm100. must....resist....

I got one about a month ago and I love it . I don't use pedals in front and I use it a fairly low volumes . I keep the boost engaged and set on 10 ,the gate works as well as my ISP decimator .the attenuater works great as well . It cleans up really well with the volume on the guitar for the cleaner stuff .Can't think of anything bad to say about it except maybe that its kinda heavy . If your thinking about getting one but aren't sure . Buy it you won't be sorry .

This head is a featherweight compared to my Soldano heads .

It's the same or heavier than the SLO and comparing a head to a combo?
