Listening to this track for the first time in years. Forgot how incredible YJM was at such an early age. The Strat into a Marshall is such a golden tone and his playing is incredible. I realize YJM isn 't everyone's favorite but IMO he is an amazing talent and I will always be a fan

The guy is absolutely killer. No reason to hate on the guy. He plays faster than most and his precision and technique is spot on.

I remember being a freshman in high school and listened to the black vinyl record of Black Star that came in Guitar Player magazine. I could not believe a guitar could be played that way. Icarus Dream Suite is still one of the most expressive pieces of guitar music I have ever heard. Just awesome!

That's the first time I heard it as well.

Hands-down sickest technique. His right hand is ....magic. And he plays .08's. HOW DOES HE PICK THAT FAST?????

I saw him twice on that tour, the guy was absolutely out for blood at that time and still had something to prove. I was speechless when it was over, I did not know wether to be inspired or quit playing
Whatever your feelings on him are now, there was a day when he was the king of badass guitar players.
He came over and raised the bar to the 10th floor and it took everybody by surprise. Within 2 years, his speed and technical ability was being copied by everyone who could at least somewhat pull it off. Within 3 it had inspired a whole list of shred-players.
Good times in the guitar world, those early YJM years bring very fond memories

YJM: When your initials are recognized around the world there's a reason for it. He can be one of the most expressive guitar players with the best 'feel' in addition to having prodigious technical prowess.

Fortunately I can rest on the coat tails of Joe Satriani because he and I have the same initials and grew up in the same area.

This is the track that I tell the folks who hate neo-classical and say he has no feeling in his playing. If one can honestly say Yngwie J. Malmsteen (not to be confused with Yngwie H. Malmsteen) has no feel after listening to this track I no longer value ones opinion as they are deaf when it comes to guitar tone, feeling and playing lol

I judge guitar players by 'can I tell who is playing by hearing the first phrase or two'..to me that determines that a player has something distinct going on..vibrato being first for me. When YJM plays a slow and melodic line his vibrato is instantly recognizable. He really is a complete player and that goes way beyond his technical prowess. One of the best period. Ever.

This may be my favorite track from Rising Force.

Like many others, I first heard Yngwie via the Alcatrazz "Island In The Sun" video which believe it or not, actually was played on MTV in the early 80s. I REALLY took notice when that "soundpage" (remember those?) of Black Star was included in Guitar Player magazine. Once I got my copy of Rising Force, I cut A LOT of school learning those songs - he literally changed everything for me as a player...opened up a whole new way of looking at the instrument.
