I honestly believe Yng was taking the piss at certain points there.. Claiming he'd never heard Beck's "lovers"? Nah, sorry man, not buyin it =)

I remember reading this when it came out first and laughin my ass off at him - he certainly knows how to play the media game the wiley fox!
He really is his own creation though and that G3 video is classic. He's the only one having fun from where I see it!

EVH did the same thing during one of these interviews, big songs and he is stating never heard it.

Who cares what that dick thinks? He's wrote the same song over and over and played the same solo in every one of them for 30 years.

I was listening to some early Yngwie the other day and noticed he actually played with thought and a bit slower on those early records. Later on, it was the same old runs and just got really old.

There's perfect, then there's rock n roll! I know, for example, Chuck Berry didn't tune his guitar all the time, and I bet Yngwie would tear Chuck's solo's to bits. But Chuck didn't have to play perfectly to do what he did - and influence as many as he has.
Best comment EVER!

He did the same thing the entire song, The ENTIRE song. I think it may be the same exact lick the entire time too. Unimpressive. Quite honestly I'd much rather see you Mark holding it down on a 6 six than I would another second of this pudgy-pirate.

That Beck performance is better than anything that Yngwie has done or most likely will ever do. There was no need to fix every little pitch to make it perfect, because it was about the Performance. The performance is amazing and translates as is. It is a masterpiece.

I'm thankful that music is filled with imperfection and is not controlled by people like YM.
Raw, rough, dirty, sweet, singing, emotional, beautiful, ugly...it's how I like it.
Not that technically perfect stuff that is about as moving as listening to someone practice scales.
He did produce a cool amp with Marshall, tho.

I agree with almost everything YM said, truth hurts.

Funny thing is, all the artists he so harshly criticized have been SO much more successful then him. He criticized Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Metallica,....... who will be considered 3 of rocks greatest bands ever. No one outside of guitar forums even know who YJM is.

Show me how many albums and concert tickets Pearl Jam has sold. Then show me his. There is the joke. Im not even a PJ fan. I just think its ludicrous.

Funny read though ;)
PJ vox are technically awefull, Eddy doesn't hit the notes. The guitar playing IS technically sloppy and average at best. Doesn't mean that people aren't going to like PJ music. YM has a point.

It's not THAT much of a stretch. I don't listen to the radio, so I'm oblivious to songs that were HUGE over the past year and a half.

This guy has no sense of melody, out of tune bends, crappy vibrato and overall poor musicianship, I'd rather hear beefed up chuck berry licks over a I, IV, V progression

Ahh, shit. Between 1:42 and 1:44, I heard off-time string noise that didn't compliment everything else that was going on at that exact moment. You know what this means: the song and the artist are shit. Unlistenable. BAHHH!!

He's approach is different. He's looking at the performances from a classical player's point of view. If you ask any of them they usually bash anything slightly out of key or tempo. But those little flats, sharps out of tune bends and tempo changes are the heart and soul of performances, and we call it mojo. On the other side did you ever seen a true classical player jammin'? Playing without sheet music? Any deviation from the sheet music is blasphemy for them.
Yngwie is boring me to tears if he plays his usual stuff, but if you have seen the G3 DVD's Little Wing performance, IMO it is his best performance recorded so far. He smokes Satch and Vai because he's playing from the heart with an amazing blues feel.
I bet he would comment it as his worst performance of all times. :D

Funny and probably true.

I never liked his Music much but he is an amazing Virtuoso, even when he was about 19- I saw a video of him at that age.

The things I heard with G3 made me realize he's a truly great player, and can probably play a lot of things we never get to hear, maybe excellent or great in many styles.

I agree with almost all the previous Posts about him on this thread- but mostly he is a real character in interviews, pretty funny and entertaining, maybe he is just brutally honest-it was very entertaining to hear him rip everyone in that interview except the Allmans and Steve Vai............Vai, like Yngwie was also very advanced at 18 or 19.......

He is more fun when you don't take him too seriously......and he sure can play.

I agreed with him half the time. But I think the dime comments were retaliation to the Doughnut incident. That was funny shit! I don't like doughnuts!

AT about 7 minutes into the video

I went to this G3 at the Beacon theater in NYC and I loved it. This video reminded me of how out classed Joe Satch was as a player when compared to the other 2 monsters sharing the stage with him. Vai's originality makes him equal to Yngwie in my eyes as a player even though Yngwie is technically a more proficient player. This is the tour that opened my eyes to seeing Vai as a true virtuoso! Yngwie will always be my fave though

I really wish I knew how to post vids...
This is a good one!
Yngwie has very much chilled out since 1994. Especially after the birth of his daughter some time ago. He's a much humbler guy and always full of compliments these days. I'm sure raising a child would make anyone rethink how they act.
Yngwie really kills it on this selection.
Enjoy!

Mark

ps. wait til the end...Yngwie is tuning on stage and makes fun of himself saying: "It was in tune when I bought it.."

LOL...I love Yngwie. He's like my favorite cartoon character.

Not sticking up for the dude but...

There was so much backlash to this article when it came out, yngwie responded a few
issues later trying to "take some of the edge" off his comments. I'll check my back issues.
If I remember correctly, he said something along the lines that he thought all of this was
said in good fun and not meant to be serious etc... No matter what he says, jeff beck has
the hands of god. Hell, even blackmore thinks so.
