BUT, this read is NOTHING, you guys should read some of the stuff Yngwie said in the early/mid 80's. He cut EVERYONE to pieces and never said one good thing about anyone.

None of them got on stage with him to shut him up either ;)

I think Pat or Steve have some stories about when Yngwie showed up in Hollywood what was going on, maybe they will chime in.

And I have to find it, but the 2 guitar players from Blind Melon make Yngwie look like Mr Rodgers. You should have seen the interview they did when they just SHIT on anyone like Satch or Dream Theater, or anyone who played metal or leads. Kinda like the other camps philosophy compared to someone like Yngwie.

Guy's ears are very sensitive to pitch. Beck is known to bend sharp or flat. To state Yngwie is not melodic shows the ears of a douching ass sack. The donut jokes are as old as the shit stains in your drawers. dumb bitch

Awwww, someone's sad and angry. I believe there's a term for that: a Mincing, Butthurt Troll.

awww first nigga responder fuck off nigga

Hi Carla

I agree with a lot of what Yngwie was saying, especially the Pantera vocals and cookie monster shit. I also love Jeff Beck and Gary Moore. I don't know how anyone involved with music in any way shape or form can say with a straight face that Yngwie Malmsteen can not play nor be melodic.

Guy can play, he's just boring as hell to listen to.

I assume Yngwie can hear perfect pitch so listening to Kirk Hammet for him would be like nails on a chalk board....

I think Kirk Hammett's playing would be like nails on a chalkboard for anyone with hearing. :)

I'd take any of those guys he trashed over him. His music sounds like one long diminished arpeggio, zzzzzzzzz.

I love The Cure "rap." rofl. Funny about pitch, cause I've always thought Yngwie's pitch, bedamned my ears, is usually flat with about 1/3 step of vibrato on held notes to try and keep it together.

There can be no denying YJM's superior skills.

His personality aside, he may have a point on some of his critique... But I wouldn't take the criticism too much to heart since anyone who is not into shred guitar would just walk out of his gigs after the second time he does that sweep ending in a wide vibrato and then the descending diminished arpeggios.

"I have just one reservation about them: their drummer. His choice of beats is terrible! He's obviously listened to too much Neal Peart [Rush] over the years and needs to take a Valium."

:hys: :hys: :hys:

(Portnoy - Dream Theater)

imho rising force was a ground breaking album.
marching out was an ok follow up.
his covers album was cool and so were the orchestral bits he did.

that leaves about 80% of his output in the toilet as dated repetitive hair farmer metal.

as much as kirk sucks those first 3 Metallica albums crush stingray marmalade's entire oeuvre.

you would think a guy with those chops and musical intellect would at least for once try something other than same mid 80's cliches!

Like him or not, he's right on the money on 99% of these. Not too sure about Beck playing out of tune though...
As much as I hate sayin that I agree that he's right , I think he is. As far as the Beck song is concerned, there are notes taht are bent sharp or flat but it really doesn't matter to anyone except those people who are cursed with perfect pitch.

Started reading the reviews.

Saw him say "Lars [Ulrich] is a great drummer."

Stopped reading.

I think he was giving his honest opinion. He could have been more tactful or polite or whatever but that would be boring. Yngwie never struck me as somebody interested in being boring. He's one of those guys like DLR that is never out of character. Never stops entertaining. That's what makes him great. Part of his schtick is the attitude and the aloofness. This is exactly the kind of article/interview the mag wanted and he was just giving them their money's worth. IMO...

Whether or not you agree with him, who cares. Plenty of people have torn him to shreds in reviews over the years. I personally can't stand to listen to him for more than a few minutes at a time. But he's an icon.

guys a egotistical douchebag, always has been

has some good songs but he's a one-trick pony that really shouldn't be critiquing other guitarists overuse of pentatonics

honestly reading that just irritated me

sometimes i find his whole persona hilarious... then i realize he's actually a real person

he's right about a lot of it and he has the skills to justify the bragging rights, but damn... no need to be such an ass about it.

What a funny snapshot in time. 1994 -- this interview was done right at the transition when shred was being phased out in favor of Nirvana, etc. and a big part of the rock crowd was pretty pissed off about it. Funny reading it 18 years later.

There was a different mood about all the stuff coming up because technically, guitar-wise, it sucked (compared to the prior genre Yngwie came from). Lots of the stuff being played to him was newer stuff (at the time) and he also may have had an axe to grind (pun intended) with the changing of the guard, so to speak.

YOU said it, bitch. Go douche your ass like a good twink

I know you mean to be offensive, but you just come off as mentally unstable. Think about it. You come on the internet, join a forum to make 4 posts, and then make homophobic and racist remarks to someone you do not know simply because their thoughts vary from your own? I apologize for calling you a sack of menses, because it's not right to insult someone that isn't playing with a full deck. I do however, stand by my illiterate comment.
