Yngwie killing it on Swedish TV

Yngwie should probably get all his Strats modified and just remove the frets from 1 - 11 because he only uses 12-22...

I've heard my share of Yngwie that's like "damn," but man, this is pretty awful. He is pushing the band hard, fair share of sour notes, and just overall pretty sloppy. Obviously not saying I could do it, but for someone who is supposed to be able to, it sure doesn't sound it. :aww:

But one thing you have to ask yourself is.......DID HE UNLEASH THE FOOKEN FURY!!!!

A lot of haters in this forum, he plays the same thing over and over, he is sloppy here, on and on. He has done a few things very few on this board can take claim to.

No shit.....haters galore! I enjoyed what he played at the beginning of the video, the middle, and while his rendition of "Far Beyond The Sun" might have not been his best,...it was at the very least, entertaining afterall. Some of you guys might consider putting your guitars down, and picking up the tuba instead so that you can have something big to blow. :dunno:

I have never been a huge fan but I think his right hand is one of the best in the business. I'm blow away with his picking.

They should not show the audience.. they're all sitting there like ducks thinking WTF is this?

I watched it to see the chick in the purple dress :D

Apart from her, I found this really painful to watch. And not because of Yngwie. Sure enough I've never really been into the shredding stuff, not just of him but of most musicians (I prefer rhythm riffs). I thought he performed fine. It was the the scene and the crowd that unsettled me.

Yngwie's performance & swinging his guitar around and the light show & band etc. were playing as if they were on a big stage in a massive arena or stadium late on a Saturday night, where the sound envelopes you and there's a sea of faces mashing into each other and shaking their fists to the beats and air-guitaring/moshing/headbanging & just full-on raging. And their performance & the lights etc. SUITED that type of scene.

But not of some circus tent in a quaint serene park at 11 o'clock on a Tuesday morning with everyone SEATED and just staring while they take the odd photo and sip on some wine!??

To me the energy emanating from the crowd has to reflect the energy coming from the stage. Even if a style of music might not have heavy gainy guitars or that sort of thing, it can still have a lot of energy and vibe and the crowd gets into it.

And I didn't feel any of that from watching this video. Yngwie and his shredder backup band may as well been playing at a concrete brick wall...

I love Yngwie but he was butchering it up on those two tracks imho...

There is only one Yngwie.

This clip isn't his best, but there's no denying he's got one of the smoothest, lightest pick attacks around. Contrast him with other shredders whose main tone is actually PICK sound. You might not love Yngwie's tone, but unlike just about every other shredder out there, you can actually hear it.

Agreed, I'm not a fan of that "clack-clack" sound.

For the first 20 minutes I listen to Yngwie, I'm all

After 20 minutes, I'm all

So true.. I was embarassed for him. But like a pro I will give him credit for just doing his thing anyway including the salute when he ends a song. Those people didn't know what hit them but you can rest assured that they thought it was total noise. He overplays and ruins his classics.

Nature of the beast.. when you start to suck, you suck. Considering he was awesome and a total jaw dropping guitarist for over a decade, watching him slip into the abyss with sloppy playing and not really giving a f_ck about it because he is Yngwie deserves the kind of comments he's getting. Just like Lynch does too. Lots of players don't stink it up. I think that sounded like total ass and i would never pay to see him play if that is what he was going to bring. It is pure garbage speed for the sake of speed. He's not even hitting his licks in time!! he is way behind or too fast. Vinnie Moore still plays tastefully. He's from the same era. Nuno can still play.. people don't pick on them because they aren't egos who believe their own hype. Personally i still get a kick out of his baroque and roll approach to living life but don't expect me to kiss his ass or his legacy when he could give a shit about the integrity of his own style anymore. Seriously Yngwie, play the f_cking song like you wrote it. I don't mind some variance in dweedles but don't dweedle x 1000 everything that used to be slow and cool.

Am I the only one who was searching the picnic table for a fried banana bacon peanut butter sammich? I think I saw some donuts though. . .

His transmutation into shredding's "Elvis '77" is nearly complete.

yep a lot of what you stated is true. Yngwie doesnt even pratice anymore i heard. But, i just recently saw him in Anaheim and the next night in L.A. and it was night and day in terms of performance. The L.A. show he was perfectly killing it and was seriously on to something special. Paul Gilbert and Andy Timmons were in the audience. He's bored basically and obviously doesnt give a shit but when he really wants too he can bust out the good stuff still. it s too bad he's gone down this path but it is what it is. The Concerto Suite was a big milestone for him as musician, even though he way over played a lot, but the work behind it composition and arrangement wise was pretty brilliant IMO. This a poor example, not even his band so im sure they barely got rehearsal time in. he plays way ahead of the to backing tracks too. maybe his ears are shot : )

I'll give you that.. clearly he can still technically play if he puts his mind to it. I guess he just does less and less because he really doesn't need to. He might actually seriously be as tired of playing this stuff as we are of listening to it. He's a killer blues player, why not do that for a bit!

Yep. I just think he's stubborn and doesnt allow anybody in to help him or consult. Joe Satriani even offered to assist him in producing, but he's got a one track mind. He's a terrible producer but won't pay for the right talent in the studio, Plays the same old rehashed tunes ( although he did bust out As Above,So Below from the first album this tour), but yeah its like he's on autopilot and doesnt even give a shit about playing rhythm solid through an entire song. I totally agree on the Blues thing, as a matter of fact when he plays bluesy thats actually what I dig the most! I also dug his tone much more in the old days, he was using 30's and 25's in his cabs, now he's got these 75's and they are so fricken piercing and scooped that my ears were ringing for two days straight! I really really feel sorry for his guitar techs, they are constantly getting tormented for dumb stuff. Sometimes I think he does it on purpose to live in Ritchie Blackmore's shadow. ;)
