You all know I love Yngwie. But…

I like Eleven Blue Egyptians more than anything Yngwie has ever done

But none of that would have happened IF it weren't for Yngwie. There is a reason this exists. ( love the black guy in the back thinking WTF is this shit lol) Also, he is nowhere as clean as YJM and his tone is shit. So yeah, there is that too. As much as we all love Becker, Yngwie is the king when it comes to the shred as we know it. ( nod to Blackmore and Uli for the classical feels). EVH and Yngwie just moved the needle and progress in guitar to a whole new level when they hit the scene. don't come at me with the Randy Rhoads shit either. As brilliant and amazing as Randy was, he was influenced by Ed and Ed's tapping. Steal away the night riff? It vibes like I'm on Fire ( the middle riff before the solo).

Jason is literally a 16 year old high schooler here, and Yngwie was already a fully developed 19-20 year old prodigy when he released his solo album 3 years before. A year after this, Jason no doubt could have nailed Black Star, and very few guitarists of any age could have done so at a high level at that time. I love Jason's rawness here! You can tell he is still struggling a bit, but the potential is obvious.

The Maestro's style faced a strong backlash at the end of the '80s, but he influenced the HELL out of so many guitarists, whether they claim him or not. Just the idea that you didn't have to be bound by blues-based rock structure, not only for solos, but over the entire SONG, was revolutionary.....

My very first recorded original song was inspired by Icarus Dream Suite, even had three movements.

As noted earlier in this thread..once you get to that elite level, it's not really about the talent or ability..it's really just the personality each person brings to their music.
I can appreciate both Jason and Yngwie's talents, but to me I think Jason had a larger vocabulary...or maybe just chose to widen his horizon beyond the 'neo classical' genre.
Rising Force was truly a once in lifetime ..maybe even century...game changing force in guitar music...similar wow factor to someone like Michael Hedges or Shawn Lane.

Even the harmonies and dissonance that the Jason/Marty/Cacophony's music brought...has influence on today's metal.

Someone else noted that it "sounds like all the other Shrapnel stuff"...I'd say that is just a bit dismissive.

If you listen to Vinnie Moore..Macalpine..Kotzen Howe...Taffola..Lane..Gilbert ...etc...I really don't hear it as all the same...each guy had his own personality and songwriting style. While there is of course a commonality amongst their music, each brought something unique to the table.

Give Michael Lee Firkins a listen if you think all the Shrapnel guys sound alike.

I'm not comparing skills as much as comparing innovation. Also listen to demos Yngwie at 16-18 that you can find on YT. Holy shit balls. So precise. Really all I am saying is comparison is pointless, but so is the " he was so much better". These guys get so much better because of the guys that precede them. Guys are way better than Gretzky skill wise in today's NHL but he and Lemieux resulted in a whole new generation of hockey players who were themselves, bested by the guys after as everyone got better decade to decade.(if you guys like hockey..and I mean individual skill, not points)
