by adding too much delay and verb to the mix...sounds great until I stop playing, then it all catches up with me.

I've had my share of guys pick on me but I don't mind I still find this place very cool to hang![]()

Reb Beach: OD100se+ (now uses the PT100) Gain on 10 on the amp, EMG pickups, SPC tone control and a boost pedal.
He has a job. He gets lots of jobs. He plays on more stages than most people here.
He plays well. more weller than most.
Shaddup...lol.

I love the sweeping generalizations that come about when gain is mentioned. Here is a little bit of info for all the coliseum players here. A tone either works or it doesn't.
You can use a shit ton of gain and have it sound like ass LIVE or you can actually know WTF you are doing, play with a shit ton of gain and have people come up to you after the gig and ask you WTF you were usingbecause they were loving your tone![]()

It is only a hand-full of people that have a illusion that this forum is about "metal" and "heavy". It is only a very small piece of the whole forum. Most of us have much wider taste. The few that only see that part of it really are delusional. Sad really ....blackba":2papdrwi said:Joeytpg":2papdrwi said:Yeah, my tastes are very differente from most guys around here, but I started here being a metal head, I loved (still do) metal and hard rock..... somewhere along the way my musical tastes changed (when I started writing music) but I already had a good atmosphere around here, I liked the folks and why leave?

You are not alone in your music tastes. There are a good many of us on here that like more than just hard rock and metal.
Don't tell anyone .... but earlier this year I started turn my gain back up and scooping my midrange again. I think I went as far as I could the other direction and now only look for a balance. The right tools for the job at hand.Mark Day":3ezx1351 said:Gainfreak":3ezx1351 said:This!!

+1
I get razzed on the interwebz all the time about my level of gain. I am a live player, have been for 32 years. The last year has been the first break I have ever taken from playing live. I didn't play 3 gigs a year, I usually played 3 gigs a week.
I can't remember too many gigs where I didn't have a guitarist come up to me to compliment my tone and want to find out what was in my rig. I have had local guys copy my rigs over the years.
I am not trying to blow my own horn, I'm just saying gain doesn't have to be a bad thing. Really.
Having said that, I do like alot of lower gain stuff as well. I actually have lower gain settings for tunes in our sets as well.
You guys just don't get to hear that side
