I've had on/off GAS for p90 guitars in the past. I wonder how they'd sound with distortion? I never go for the heavy chug kinda thing but more like mid rich "just enough" sustain for hard rock that sounds VERY clear and articulate. I wonder if I'd like a p90 guitar...

Any clips of P90 rhythm? I know they sound great in solo's although probably not everybody's boat. But how about rhythms?

tony iommi used p90s on the first couple albums i think

I've been wondering the same thing lately! I'm curious to see the responses...

They sound more like very fat single coils because they are single coils !
Definintely different than "mini-humbuckers".

Are they still very clear sounding? Rob's clip sounds fairly clear although Rob uses alot of dirt in all his clips for my taste.
Never tried mini humbuckers either. Damn I think I'm gassing for P90's :D

Hell yeah! This video makes me miss my Rockerverb :aww:

Yep, rockerverb sounds awesome. I was between Rverb / MK50 but then decided to go MK50. Not exactly regretting it   But still, wouldn't mind rockin on that orange beast either!

My Les Paul Custom has P-90's and it's shocked me how good it sounds with Distortion. I've played it with my Super leads, Mesa MkIIC+ and Quickrod and it sounsd incredible.

Yes, they are more clear sounding, but have their own growl that kicks ass. IMHO of course.

With a lot of gain, They are a bit noisy like single coils are, but it's not unbearable.

I love a good set of P-90's. I'm gonna put some Seymour Duncan P-Rails in my Ibanez here soon

P90 lover here!

Since I got a P90 EBMM guitar about a year ago I've been totally hooked....it's been my number one ever since.
Compared to standard strat single coils I find P90's have a hotter output and a fatter tone, great for gain in the bridge position and work best without a ton of gain added.

Here's a clip that I think shows it's character pretty good...it's a rock tone but it still has the single coil snap to it.

That sounds pretty good!

My TC-90 sounds great with distortion. I'll admit it is an acquired taste. I have A/B'd it with a Gretsch Electromatic Double Jet refitted with P90's and the Fender won hands down. I have also played a Blueshawk but it was completely worthless for high gain. Wouldn't stop howling.

If I activate both pups in the Fender it acts as a humbucker and is a lot less noisy. The Fender sounds much darker than the Gretsch or Gibson which I prefer. I'll never understand why they discontinued it. It's not quite a Strat nor a Tele but sits very comfortably between the two.

I'll spare you guys from another POD clip. Once the M4 gets here it's on.

All of the P90 guitars that I ever played were not only some of the most toneful guitars that I have ever played , they also sounded incredible from crunch to full on gain. It might sound silly but P90's to me are what you get when you take the best tonal qualities of Buckers and Single coild and combine them...

Damn clips sound great so far. I think I'm gonna go get a P90 Gibson or PRS from Guitar Center and try it with my setup and see what happens. Then return it to find the one I need ;)

Carl I couldn't get that link to work. Says download should start auto but doesn't

P90s are ridiculously underrated for high-gain stuff. Incredible clarity and note-separation like you'd expect from a single-coil, but with plenty of midrange fatness and chunk.
Humbucker-sized P90s with nickel covers tend to be far quieter, though some of the best sounding P90s are so noisy they're basically unusable.
My next Blackmachine will have a pair of Bare Knuckle custom wound humbucker-sized P90s, can't wait.
