Currently using Hotheads in a couple of guitars (alder/korina strats). Looking for some feedback from current users. Looking to replace a BNP VHII bridge (lower output than I prefer).

Thanks

I have them. They're killer pickups. I haven't played either of the pickups you mentioned, so I can't compare to those unfortunately. They are on the lower output side. It does pack more punch and sustain than you'd expect, but It doesn't feel like a med-hot pickup either. They're pretty tight without feeling stiff and hold together really well under gain. They have a nice openness that sounds awesome under gain. They clean up great with the guitar volume. Tonally they're balanced and have a great bite without being shrill.

they are modeled after t tops.

but in direct comparison to t tops, they are more hi fi without being strident.

they have a lot of clarity

they seem hotter than the dcr readings would suggest.

hotheads are little smoother, with more heads and the highs are a less hi fi than t wrecks.

How would the Detroiter compare to both the Twreck and VHII?

I can compare the Detroiter and TWrecks. I had them both in the same guitar and used them each for a good while. They're pretty different sounding IMO. The detroiter is fatter with a low mid bump, so it's got some more chunk to it. The treble is slightly rolled off, but it's not dark by any means. The top end is dialed in perfect - it cuts through without any shrillness. The detroiter is also marginally hotter too. The Twreck is just more neutral eq wise and extends more in the top end. It's a little more open with a bit more string-to-string separation. The Twreck is a little tighter too.

Both are two of my favorite pickups, but in the end it always depends on matching the right guitar to the right pickup. I'd be inclined to put the detroiter in a neutral to brighter, thinner guitar, and put the Twrecks in a neutral to warmer, fatter guitar.

Frank, I believe you have or had BKP Painkillers. Any comparisons to the MCPs you mentioned ? Thanks.

Hey Gary. Never had the Painkillers. I was going to get some at one point, but ended up going a different route.

My mistake, sorry ! To anyone else, is there a general descriptive trait that could be attributed to MCPs across the board ? BKPs are generally considered dry, unsaturated, very clear/open pickups Duncans more forgiving, compressed, thinner more nasal. Are MCP somewhere in the middle or something else entirely ?

I've found them to be similar to BKP, but the most of the ones I've tried have a pissed off, angry vibe to them that I've never heard in a pickup.
