I'll add more info when I get back from work. But the first four riffs are the same guitar with only pickup change and 10-52 strings. Number 5 and 6 are two separate guitars with 10-60 strings. Gain was at 10 o'clock, Bass, middle, treble and depth were at noon and presence was at 9 o'clock. Amp was pretty loud. Single track, single SM57 1 1/2" off grill pointing at just outside the dust cap on a V30.
Riff 1

Riff 1 with pickups 1 and 2(L&R), bass and drums. Raw.

Riff 2

Riff 2 with pickups 3 and 4(L&R), bass and drums

Pickups used were #1 EMG81,#2 Suhr Aldrich, #3 Squier Humbucker(17.4k) #4 Fender Atomic all in a Fender Cyclone with fresh 10-52 strings. Pickup #5 was a SD JB in a Squier Super Sonic 10-60 strings about 2 weeks old. Pickup #6 was a Jackson J95 in a Charvel Model 88(mahogany body) with 10-60 strings that were old.

Is the second one on riff 2 the EMG?

Riff 1 and 2 were recorded with the same pickup order. Nope. It was not the EMG. Maybe I have too much wax in my ears or a little more deaf than I thought but I thought they all sounded good. They each sound a bit different but not night and day to my ears. I can tell the difference a little bit more in the room. I will add that the guitar in the very last clip(riff 1 and 2) did not have fresh stings. And of course all the eq knobs were at noon. Got a favorite?

All sound good, what amp is this, whatever it is sounds stellar.

It's my Peavey VTM120 that Mr. Fortin had his evil little hands inside of. :D I have yet to play a pickup with this amp that doesn't sound good(to me). What's your favorite?

1st one my favourite...2 and 3 sounded good too and didnt care for the last 2 :D

Definitely sounds nothing like a stock VTM120! I need to get my VTM120 back up and running -- need to get a new headshell for it first though! Hahaha... That thing is a back breaker otherwise.

Very cool. Other than the last two, they were all very similar. The Atomic seemed to be the loudest.

I liked the first 3. My favorite was number 3, it combined what I liked about 1, which was the tight bass and what I liked about 2 which was the midrange and clarity.

I just added the last two for shits and giggles. The last two had thicker gauge strings and they were not so fresh. The first four though were exactly the same everything except the actual pickup. They do all sound similar to me too. I hear a difference, but it's not night and day and it would probably barely matter if at all in a mix. Which one did you like best? I only listed what pickups were used, not what order they were recorded. ;)
