Reverb shipping label question.

Surely, this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it. Reverb has a pretty decent discount when buying a UPS label through Reverb. I sold a heavy head last night and wanted to have the local UPS Store pack it for me. Can I hand it off to them for packing, then get the weight and dimensions from them, print the Reverb shipping label and slap it on that box at the UPS store? In the past I've gone dumpster diving at the local GC and usually come up with a passable box and packing material. So I did it all at home, weighed, measured and then bought the label. How to do it with UPS Store doing the real work?

They may do it for a fee; but they make money by shipping the item for you with their label, via their discount from ups.

Great. I'll go see them about this and figure out which will be cheaper.

Sounds like a pretty neat scheme, but it doesn't work that way.

UPS packing and shipping will probably cost 3x what doing it yourself and getting the label through Reverb will be. Take some vaseline with you.

I wouldn't trust UPS to properly ship a box of feathers.

Agreed. If you sell a heavy amp head, you just have to suck it up and get some high quality boxes/containers and spend the time to do it yourself and do it right. The only person you can trust is YOU. Home Depot has some sturdy plastic containers with wheels on one edge that work well. Last 2 heads I’ve sold, I double boxed and then used the container also.

I was just on HD's site, looking at boxes. Never heard of a plastic container on wheels that fits a head. Hell, I have one of those Gator soft head cases on wheels I be happy to get rid of, but I don't know that they'd accept that without more external packaging.

I’ve stuck a label on an orange plastic Home Depot bucket full of cans of beer and shipped it through FedEx. No box. Of course they don’t know there’s beer in it as shipping alcohol is against their terms of service.

There is no discount from UPS doing it.

Sounds like some poor planning. I'm ready to ship BEFORE I sell an amp. Scrambling for a box AFTER isn't really a smart way to do business.

Fair enough. I should have been ready to ship right away. But I was getting a lot chatter on the local FB Marketplace about it, people telling me it was underpriced and would sell right away. So I thought it'd sell locally and no shipping required. Sat. I listed my Marshall Astoria on Reverb and then decided to put my Silver Jub head on there. I got few lowball offers, then almost full price last night, so I took it. Gotta ship.

Answer… you would do it the same, except for the part where you pack it. Have UPS store do it… get the weights / dims, buty the label through Reverb, give it to UPS store, and you’re done.

Do you think they'll do this for me, knowing I'd be providing my own label?

Sure… you could take it to them, ask for a quote and then decide if it’s worth it to you. If not, just do it yourself.

Home Depot website is useless. Trust me, these containers are there and there are a few sizes that will work. I still have one here I can take a pic if you want to go this route?

If you wouldn't mind, please post a photo. I am knocking this all out tomorrow. Thanks.

Terrible pics, but you get the idea…
This size I used once. No box. I just put in plenty of bubble wrap and filling so the head didn’t move. There are holes on the lid that you can use the put the plastic zip ties through to secure the top along with the 4 latches. The last one I used was larger and I boxed the head and the loaded it inside.

Ok, thanks. Never even thought of that. I shipped a Soldano Decatone once in a flight case, just zip tied the clasps and dropped off at FedEx. That was painless.

I bought that large Plano container today. Unfortunately, the dimensions listed on the website are the outer dimensions and larger than the inner dimensions, which makes the indentations on the ends touch the ends of the head. I think it will still work, but being $26 when HD's site said it was $18 and still being a tight fit is killing my buzz. But I'll see how it goes. Now I have a woman on Reverb wanting to buy my Marshall Astoria combo and her questions are starting to make me think she hacked a legitimate Reverb person's account. Love this stuff.

Ughhh

Yeah, it was a tighter fit when I used this particular container. But it worked and the amp made it safe. It was a Superlead. I paid in the $26 range at Home Depot. The bigger one was in the $36 range and left a decent amount of space on all sides.

Well, it's gone now. Reverb charged $47 for their own insurance, which is required for stuff over $1500. So it wasn't a cheap project. But it should get there in good shape and I came out way ahead on the deal. Now, two more amps to sell and then I'm done. All I have left are keepers.
