How is the neck shape? Is it closer to a standard C-taper or does it have more of a D-taper neck with thicker shoulders and a flatter back like a lot of Charvels?

It's more of a D shape with the thicker shoulders and flatter back.

If you're concerned about the quality, The FR 1000 is pretty solid. I wouldn't let that turn you away. Easy to swap out. If you're worried about the complexity of a Floyd, it's really no big deal.

I actually just ordered a JB Antiquity. It's a touch more open sounding, which is what I'm after.

My Charvel HD is one of my favourites, such a great guitar for the price and Henrik is an incredible player too!
