very cool!! The 57 just seems to sit somewhere between all the mics, that D2 sounded really good

Is that the Audix D2 mic?...Sounds pretty good. 57 has it's distinctive flavor.

I want to say thanks to @RaceU4her since he was doing the comparison for me as an offshoot from my thread asking about mics.

im kind of digging the D4 now listening again, sounds somewhere between the 57 and D2. might have to start using that thing more. you never know though, i could do this same thing on a different speaker and we might have totally different opinions, and sounding good on its own dosent mean sounding good in a mix

I found an old discontinued D3 at my local music store, and that has really shocked me. I haven't tried my D2 on guitars, but the D3 was really balanced. Now, my go to is an sE Electronics VR1 ribbon mic to blend with a 57.

FWIW I mic my bass with an Audix D6 every show. Overdriven tube amps through a mic on a speaker sound so much better than a clipping DI, no matter what instrument you play.

I used it (D3) with a 57 on a recording a few years ago, but I haven't touched it in a while. I think that was back when I was still going from a mixer to a 4 channel interface for demos, so I don't have the individual tracks. I'm trying to Craigslist score a D1 and a D4 to round out my collection. Maybe I can recreate your experiment next week if I get the mics and time.

It's good to know that if I just want all the wrong frequencies, I just need a Q7. The Audix sounds beefy without being dull. I think I'm going to have to get one and see how it blends with a 57.

I came across this video of mic comparisons on a bass amp. Though it would be a good addition to this thread since it has several of the mic RaceU4her posted.
