saw that... i may be mistaken, but i "think" he got some noise from the EVH camp years ago when he was doing the straight up, red/white/black frankenstrats, ,and the w/black-yellow black etc. could be misremembering but i believe it drove him away from the EVH "style", but then he came back to this newer industrial type look.

legally, i don't how all this works, and don't get me wrong, I LOVE Ed.... but this look, this design is Mitchels (IMO). sure the stripe thing is/was eds, but there is a lot of other shit going on. it'd be cool for Mitchel if EVH camp would do the proper thing here and build his "take" and kick him back some royalties. but, being a little guitar shop in Nowhere, FL, you ain't going to beat EVH/Fender.

Bit late to the party, but that guitar finish is off the charts good

I've got an old black Jackson Dinky I'm looking to do something similar to by trying to emulate the finish on the Mean Street Frankstein Pipeline, but I'm not totally sure what's the best approach. Did you apply cut matt vinyl over an existing black gloss finish or spray matt lacquer over a gloss black finish? It appears Mean Street sprayed matt lacquer over black gloss as the the switch gear, pickups and plate have a similar matt finish.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

That's all paint, no vinyl. Its a badass effect, I'm not entirely sure how to go about it and getting it all flush, guessing if you got your hands on it there would be a slight ridge at the line transition. I would shoot black and clear that, level / cut / buff, tape it off then shoot matte clear over that....I'm pretty sure there's no additional color added. Also guessing that's a poly paint and not lacquer. I love the look of it

This is TOTAL BULLSHIT...I'm going on record now bc I was told this flat matte/gloss black finish was IMPOSSIBLE by more than one standout people doing finish work for years. I want to know who pulled it off, then...

I am going on record first here to lay claim to MY theme. Same combo but crackle finish.

Be original, this is so lame and why Ed hated everyone copying him. Be yourself if you can.
