Questions About The G Major 1 and JMP-1 FX Loop

I've been rebuilding my home rack rig and pulled out an old Lexicon unit to use elsewhere. This left me a 1U rack space for an effects unit so I grabbed a cheap TC Electronics G Major 1 that popped up. I had a poor experience with the G Major 2, which needed a new ribbon cable for the screen after a few months of use + weird freezing. How's the G Major 1 in comparison?

Also... how much "tone suck" does the JMP-1 Preamp's FX loop really apply? I've always run my effects directly after the JMP-1 rather than the effects loop due to advice on here. Is this an old myth or did they really engineer in flawed FX Loop?

when I had my JMP-1 I also had the JFX-1; at the time I thought it sounded great; I didn't notice tone suck with the JMP-1 but it never sounded as good as my ADA rig, I had a MP-1 and MQ-1 which were amazing, I kept them, but replaced them with the MP-2 which was my favorite back in the day, just a PITA to program. For effects, I had the lowly but usable Alesis QuadraVerb.


for rack effects, I recommend finding an Eventide Eclipse unless you have the $ for the H9000.

I have been a JMP-1 user for a very long time and it is still (one of) my favorite practice rig(s) since you can have up to 100 different amp presets (channels) where I will take the same preset and adjust the gain or increase the treble or ........

I didn't like the effects loop of the JMP-1 with actual effects in it, however, one variation I found can be useful for a different tone is where you have the effects loop on slightly (choose a number you feel sounds best to you) with nothing in the loop.

I found the JMP-1 works well with a G-Major 2 (JMP-1 into the G-Major then out to the power amp (or amp return)).

Also, try the direct out of the JMP-1 (instead of the outs) into an effects unit for a different JMP-1 amp tones.

I have found switching between each one can give you a different tone when you record
