Basically, which amps out there now that give really nice modded JCM 800s? I'm in love with plexi tones, so don't know too much about he higher gain options.

Thanks~

Not sure if these are all exactly JCM800’s, but my favorite modded Marshall type amps have been the Bogner Snorkler 50, Lenz Hot Chili and Steavens Poundcake
Do you know if the Snorkler is tighter than the Helios? Can it do modern high gain?

It’s been so many years now since I last had a Helios. Imo it can pull off some modern styles, but not its forte or the amp I’d choose if that’s really what you want. It has more than enough gain and I think even tight enough, but I feel it’s character is kind of ‘90’s

For modern high gain I like the Hell Razor, Hermansson’s, Rev 1 Uber or boosted Recto’s or Mark’s

Buy a 2203 vintage or reissue and mod it or use the hot mod v2.
💯 that's what I would do it looking for the JCM sound. A cranked JCM moving air is a religious experience. Unfortunately that ringing in the ears for a week isn't salvation.

Ceriatone Yeti or Chupa.
Nik will even make you combo of the two if you want it. Very impressed with the builds he makes, not even considering the price. Maybe not so much on the side of innovation, but VERY good at replication if that's what you want. I have his JJ100 clone, and it's a great sounding amp. I would put the build quality up there with much bigger names.

Yeah. If you are looking for a stock 2204 citcuit that is made with a ton better quality parts and all turret board, look at granville amps.

If you are looking for a lower gain slightly modded, check out MGL 50 purple

I'll sell this amp that does it all.....

Yeah, those MGL's are impressive, for sure.

I also second the Helios suggestion. The non-Eclipse has plenty of gain. 80's mode on the Hot input is where it's at. 800 all day. Or grab a Laney GH50/100L on the cheap!
