Nashville Last Night

Man I would have loved too. But that band was hardcore 90’s country. They probably never listened to a Van halen record in their life lol
What's the Nashville scene like today? I was there almost 20 years ago but am in the Austin area now. I would imagine a lot has changed there.

Country today reminds me of what happened to Hair metal in the 80’s. It’s become a parody of itself and is ready to self-destruct

I was in Nashville to catch the Sammy Hagar thing last year. It was packed every night, crazy talented musicians. One thing I did wonder, is the daytime talent truly that much inferior to the later night acts or was I just a lot drunker??

I disagree with this. Country music if anything has just morphed into pop music

An aside, country acts have--bar none--the most attractive women attending.

You would notice a helluva change! New buildings and bars going up every day it seems. It's really kinda crazy. I've noticed a huge change since moving here in 2017. Never did I think I'd be working out of a tip bucket when I moved here. Surprisingly making more money doing that than when I was touring with some bigger country artists. It's pretty fucked up to be honest haha.

The amount of talented musicians in this city in unbelievable. And when I said talented, I meant beyond what I could ever imagine during my previous 20+ years working in the music business.

Yep. So many stellar musicians in the Nashville area.

I've been to The Underdog to see Guthrie Trapp and once was a Saturday night (guitar show in town) so there were a bunch of 'opening acts' that were just young people playing punk-ish stuff. Not in the same league or even close, just typical 'not good but not THAT bad' stuff.

But that is at The Underdog which is NOT Broadway...by a longshot.

If I want a really good luthier (like getting my '63 SG refretted) I'll drive up there about 3.5-4 hours and stay the night (I have tons of hotel points). Usually Monday so I can see the GT Trio.

100% I've managed to steal a few licks but his style is really tough. Using the claw\thumb makes his technique hard for me to replicate. Western swing stuff is amazing too

Dude it’s like a whole different universe trying to play that stuff. I love to listen but have spent 0 time trying to learn it. It just feels so foreign coming from a strict alternate picking metal guitar perspective.

Nashville is where I learned to use banjo picks. You can actually buy them in any random music store there. You might find dunlops in other stores but in Nashville they carry the premium stuff.

You're supposed to say you had a bunch of really nice fingerpicks but sold them all.
