NTD: Lehle Iso P transformer

I only got to turn on the amp for a second. But it sounded clear as hell. Need to try at real volume later to see if it cleared up the ground loop created by my isp

I like your board. Tools, not toys. So this is a ground loop hum eliminator?
Yeah. Dave Friedman was saying that no gate both in front and loop really could truly prevent ground loops and needed an iso transformer. I brushed it off at the time because the ground lift had always worked for me on a zuul.

When i got my ISP, I loved the pedal for how natural the sustain/decay/lack of artifacts but when i turned the amp to gigging volume, it was unusable due to a ground loop.

I have put off getting the lehle iso p for awhile, but man, i just played it at 114 dbs, and dead goddamned quiet. I am not an electric genius, but the design is so simple, i almost just made my own. The thought process behind it is so cool. There is no direct connection for ground to follow

Interesting. I was playing a gig a couple months ago and they had a massive ground loop hum in the club. Great stage but that hum was the worst I've ever dealt with. Soundman was clipping little gadgets onto my cables and asked me if I was cool with plugging into a gate. The gate was ultimately useless because once I dialed it to where my guitar signal came through without string slamming the hum was present so it's seemed like a net gain of nothing to me.

If I get out that way again maybe I will suggest these to him as an option. Might just be a good thing to keep with my rig JIC I encounter those sort of problems again.

It’s a design flaw of sorts. In the past I’ve had the Decimater I & II and both had the exact same ground loop issue. You’d think the second iteration of the pedal would have addressed this but no.

Yeah. This one may not have helped in your situation, though the same thing applies to power.

If you use an isolation transformer for your plugs, that is what most use them for i think. Mine is only really useful for separating the ground of input of my amp from the loop which become connected through my gate

Dave said it would nearly be impossible to put an iso transformer in a gate, and he isnt a fan of ground lifts, though they certainly have worked for me. But yes, this thing makes the isp fucking perfect

Never had that weird ground issue with a Zuul or Boss NS-2 in the exact same setup.

Ah, good to know. Would definitely be something worth having. I was getting probably 60+dB of hum through my rig on that stage. Killer sounding stage completely ruined by electrical noise but truthfully I have never had anything close to that level anywhere else. I wonder if it'd quiet things down in general. There are plenty of clubs with shit wiring out there.

And i am no expert, but i think their solution was the 1/8" linking cable and running two pedals...which is annoying, but i have used a gate in front and another in loop before and it can be useful

Yeah, i think an iso transformer on your plug probably would have cleaned it up

I've got this and it solved all my problems.

Both my SA EQ2 and Fortin Zuul+ give me ground loop issues, but only really with my high gain amps.

That is interesting. I could overwhelm the zuul with gain. When i first got it, i wanted to see how much it could do, so i boosted the red channel on the evh 5153 with a dirt pedal with gain and drive maxed. It was loud as fuck, so i assumed i had gate off...

Well i had the volume fucking high as shit. So when i turned off the gate (thinking I was turning on), i got to hear the noise in earnest at about 112 dbs...

But that aside, sometimes if i ran too much gain, more than I would ever really use, i would get that squeal, but i never thought it may just be a ground loop magnified enough to come through. These things dont get through without a good amount of volume

Yeah mid gain and cleans I had no issues, but when I crank it to stupid gain is when it becomes apparent.

Probably doesn't help I've got a semi complex rig

Yeah. I have worked over the years to simplify mine. In a band situation, i wouldnt even gate. I would just use the volume knob, but at home recording, i like silence when i am fucking with the computer and dont want to use standby
