I'm not even a big Gibson guy and when I saw this I went "What?"

Who wants the Norlin stuff.....?

The whole community constantly complains about it.

Now they release the guitars no one wanted for 4k and they are all over it?

Gibson understands their customer base. I never will

In the 70's, Norlin's quality was spotty and that's saying it nicely. Frankly, I am amazed at how much people are willing to spend on Norlin era stuff.

Now Gibson has tweaked the specs and is building them right. That's very appealing to a lot of us.

No problem with volutes here but that won't help if you drop your LP.

A maple LPC neck is a hell of a lot less likely to break than a mahogany one and a volute will only make that part of the neck even stronger.

BTW Dan, sweet guitars you've got there!

You must have some majical powers to predict outcomes of all LP breaks. Or just full of shit.

Wow. Dan, I dunno who pissed in your Wheaties, but I have never been disrespectful to you. Quite the contrary in fact.

Your photo shows a mahogany neck and I was talking about maple necks. I guess all my years of repairing guitars has taught me nothing.

Dan gets very sensitive when it comes to LP's but it's okay

Agreed - the intense volute and 3 piece neck should be rock solid. I've gotten to play a few with that style. The ones I got to play were also pretty damn thick/beefy feeling in general.

Oh please. You make a statement and paint a broad brush involving "all Les Pauls" and i point that out and you're "shocked & appalled" ?
Bro .... its the string tension on the headstock thats gonna snap the HS off has nothing to do with maple or a volute.
There's a solution : Don't drop yer LP, see how easy that is.

At that price point I'd rather look for a real Norlin. The new one will need a fucking refret right away anyway unless you like their idea of "medium jumbo" frets.
Saw one of the wine red versions of this in a store on Monday. It was in a glass case so I didn't get to handle it but the frets looked tiny.

Yep. I bought a Gibson Exclusive Les Paul Jr DC (60s neck) in spring and was astounded at the what they are trying pass off as "medium jumbo".

Yeah I don't know why Gibson has committed the USA production to such small frets.

Just removed the pup covers from my Custom the other day. I know it's cork sniffery, but I think the tone actually improved a tad. Just seems to have a little more clarity. I love the stock pickups in this guitar, but the natural Standard behind it needed something different and I had Jalen make me some EVH Frankenstein copies for it.

You seem to have the new Schaller S-Locks on your Custom. Any issues with them?

So do i buy a Gibson 70s Custom or a Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop Custom?

Get what YOU want not what Gibson wants to sell you.
I got mine from guitar chimp. never heard of him but he has some of the highest feedback as a seller.
The guy is outstanding, he made it happen. Went off w/o a hitch.

I'm trying to figure out what i want. I guess i want a Custom Shop Custom. I'm just undecided. Both have their Pros and Cons in my opinion.
