Watched Motley last at the Dolby / MGM in Vegas last night. It's a tech advanced venue, which I'm sure helped. But, I have to say, John 5's tone was absolutely top rate: crunchy, punchy, tight and very clear....Sounded GREAT. Took a look at his current rig up close, and he was running two EVH 5150III EL34 100 Heads. Slightly under-gained with a fairly flat EQ....Straight in, so simple.

He’s always had that under gained 80s rock tone . The EVH make it sound a lil more modern ?
His Laney tone for years was solid too
Honestly...Sounded like a slightly more aggressive, perhaps more modern take on a Marshall tone. The upper mids presented as really snarly when standing at the front of house.

ive been playing my 50w i did the c137 mod to through my Crate with v30s, the blue channel with a ts9 is just perfect with the nazgul in my yamaha. the red channel is great too. i gotta get some clips of this rig

I loved setting up my 5150 el34 50 watt like this too

I cannot give enough praise to players who still use tube amps live and turn them up enough to get power some stage compression and a bit of speaker compression going. It is a totally different sound than having all of the gain and compression in the front end of the amp.

it really dosent thrill me too much saying a run of the mill cheaper amp is as good as my expensive modded and custom amps, but it is what it is. theres a reason so many big bands are using these
I know this feeling pretty well...

That’s what I was hearing too

John 5 could make anything sound good.

He's got a great EVH tone/vibe too (see the set he did with Corey Taylor).

Did the Dolby MGM help Vince's voice at all? That over gained, whiney, 'I can't breath because I have too many cheeseburgers in my belly' "singing"?

The mis-transcribed live videos of him speaking in tongues are amazing. "Big mac! One or three?!"

I don't think I've tried the 50w el34 but I really like the 100. Not surprised it sounded good
