Help who? Canada or the US? Australia and Britain have more in common with Canada but would historically be more likely to aid the US. There is no way Australia would help Trump attack Canada. That’s just too twilight zone. Also the US is threatening Australia with import tariffs although hasn't been singled out like Canada. With friends like that who needs enemies.
I was referring to Canada.

We are going to take over your country once we finish with Canada and Greenland then all your taxes belong to us.

There won't be any more speaking french allowed Mike. You will be jailed for failing to tip at our restaurants. Get used to it. Your syrup will be exported to feed American children. We will punish you for the sin of electing Justine Turdeau. Only after you have paid your debts to us will you be granted full citizenship and we still won't allow you across the border.

You can have Quebec.

We'll take Minnesota in trade.

We tip. Trust me.

That's your problem... your companies and businesses don't build labour costs into their prices properly so you have this abortion of a tipping system. Why the fuck are you paying people extra to cover labour over the actual cost of the service when it should be built into the cost of the service in the first place. Why isn't the business paying them a proper wage so they don't have to beg for a tip and guilt tripping everyone to boot because everyone knows don't get paid properly by the business? Well why the fuck not? Are you just idiots in the US? [yes is the answer] Another reason why Australia is a better country.

Three words:

Funnel Web Spiders.

Maybe so but I also can't really think of anything more telling about a person's life than to be 91 and still telling people to "F off" publicly like some 14 year old kid. .
That's my take exactly (just found this thread); if I could make it to 91 YO, I would hope for a mind that clear to go along with the years.

"Tipping" is the act of being paid well for a job well-done OR not being paid for a piss poor job. Waitresses and waiters can set their own pay scale simply by pleasing their customers....as every job should be.
I've never heard wait staff complain that the restaurant owner should pay them more. They are well aware of the very slim profit margin of most restaurants, who cannot pay staff any better without going under. That's the system, and you discovered it right here in OTC.

It's a waste of time trying to explain it.

I know, I've dealt with him before but it's a slow morning.
My daughter worked her way through college waitressing and she will still occasionally say that if not for back problems, she would like to do it again, she made great money in tips...and not taxable.

This is what happens when "theories" overtake reality. People from other countries don't get it because they haven't seen it working in action. Screeching "livable wage" is all they have and it's not even sound logic.

If all businesses are on the same playing field by paying a minimum living wage then one restaurant can't undercut their prices by the amount of staff wages to out compete another restaurant. Prices set at the restaurant for food and service then cover the wages and people don't necessarily pay more because they went up by the amount the tip (assuming the amount of the tip + the food price = the full price for a restaurant meal including wages). Then when you read a menu and see the prices you know automatically how much you are paying because the prices are transparent. You don't have to do maths in your head to work out the price.

This system works because that's the system we have here. Guess what, we have plenty of restaurants - they didn't go out of business unless they were crap of course.

Great! I recommend you eat there.
Wait staff can make a dining out experience almost insufferable or a fabulous experience, customers are willing to pay extra for the later...without complaint. They leave that to foreigners who don't understand the system.

You're the foreigner that doesn't understand the system. You treat your wait staff like beggers. Hope y'all feel like big men. Here's a tip... ... boy...

Your country didn't even learn from its adventures with slavery... these days you just do it with illegals.
