You could just stop coming back to the thread if it offends you so much, no?

I for one think Steve was really kind. Someone posts asking for peoples opinion and feedback on what they post and then gets all butthurt when it's not a ball licking awesome review. WTF, if you don't want the honest truth ask your grandmother how it sounds and let her lie to you that its beyond awesome. Panties in a bunch bitch. Obviously not from NY. Good job Steve I think you have handled yourself quite well through this whole glop of shit. If someone could repost the "fusion" masterpiece I would love to hear it.
I appreciate it, man. I really was just trying to give some constructive feedback and got a passive aggressive, defensive response that I responded to and his responses just kept getting worse and worse. It's kind of silly that he deleted all his posts. I quoted just about everything he said going forward anyway in my responses, so it is pretty clear where he went with this...

You are spot on about the feedback thing. I think what happens for some people is that they get so used to positive feedback when they post something that they start buying into that hype and thinking they are beyond any constructive criticism. Then if they post something and someone says anything they take as negative, regardless of how politely worded, they get defensive and take it out on the person who made the comments. I think that's what happened here. Mike is undoubtedly an excellent guitarist with really impressive chops. I've complimented him in the past - it's easy to find here in the post history - and he has always been gracious and appreciated my comments. None of those were presented as finished songs asking for comments though, they were usually clips showing off an amp or mod. But... when he posts a full song asking for thoughts and I give him some constructive criticism meant to help rather than just saying how great it was... well... you know the rest... It's a bummer because I enjoy listening to him play and none of this was necessary.

To be honest, I could have just let it go as well, but in the heat of the moment, his initial reaction pissed me off and IMO he accelerated things from there without him really listening to my responses and thinking about what I'd really said... I hold no grudge or hard feeling about any of this frankly though. If he posts another killer amp or mod clip, I'll say so, regardless of his attacking my playing - that really doesn't affect me - I know where I stand as a guitarist/musician and it certainly ain't at the top of the heap. :D If he posts another full song asking for comments, I'll just keep my thoughts to myself...

Steve

This all day long.

I have been stressed out for the past week and a half working on quarterly business reviews at work and this thread was a great distraction for the past 15 minutes. I don't know the OP but his clips are pretty cool and you can tell he has chops. If he would have asked the forum "do you like my tone?" or "how are my chops?" I'm sure he would have gotten all glowing posts. Be careful what you ask for if you truly don't want the feedback. If you don't like it don't respond or just laugh it off. I know a lot of people who don't like my playing or tone and that's fine. I have had multiple replies on my You Tube channel video clips like "no offense but you can't play the lead for shit" or "your tone sounds digital, you need a tube amp". I think it's funny!  Constructive criticism is totally fine to me. Stupid comments with no weight just make me laugh. Steve is one of the best guys on this board and has been 100% real since the HCAF days of yore (pre 2004ish).

Michael R/T, if you left because of this it's a shame. You are a good player! Be happy wherever you land. I don't spend a ton of time here anymore not because it has changed (even if it isn't 100% same). Too busy living life and dealing with normal changes:

Kids growing up
Oldest son leaving for two years starting August 6th
Work getting busy
Enjoying time with my wife
Running and cycling a ton. Training for a triathlon that is 3 weeks away

Why did I share this? There are more important things in life than to dwell on crap like this. Don't let it get you down and focus on what's most important. The good thing is I can find time to make guitar one of those important things. Even Hamilton and Ben Wyatt agree!

Man! I wish I could have heard the clip. I really miss stuff like this on the forums. If really like to hear what everyone does and hopefully sometime soon, post up some music I've been working on. We were all somewhat harsh to each other back in the HCAF days, but there was always a sense of community back then, and that's one reason why I decided to finally start posting over here...I recognized some of the usernames.

Steve, I think your original comments were very constructive and were your honest opinions. No need to defend yourself. They're your comments and opinions. No problem.

To the OP, I'd be great to hear what you posted up. I didn't get to check it out, but based on the comments, it sounds like it has some killer playing. Hopefully the words of encouragement spur you on, and I hope and negative comments spur you on too.

Go to sound cloud, if you subscribe, and search for Major Michael. Guys a really proficient and technical player....each of his ( what I call) sketches is a little different texturally. Some of it, to me, just "gets on me" (number 7 was pretty good), while other pieces and parts are the musical equivalent of having someone read a random page out of Merrian Webster. The words are there, but the story just isn't resounding.

Pride got in his way of this being an awesome resource and learning tool for him, IMHO.

I'm still.... :checkthisout:

The OP is from the great white north and they do things a little different.

Oh, please do explain.

Yes please explain.

*AWESOME PICTURE*

Not sure if this is exactly what he meant, but here in Minnesota(Mini-Canada, minus the French), people don't like disagreements. I'm speaking in generalities of course, but they just want to sit around and agree with each other. A lot of people get angry and can't handle someone simply communicating a different opinion. Disagreeing with someone can be considered rude or like you're disturbing the social peace or something.

If that is indeed the case the OP probably shouldn't be on the Internet. The Internet is a scary place with lots of butthurt and his grandmother can't always protect him and tell him how awesome he is. Jesus Christ grow some skin/balls whatever, but to get bent over some honest feedback that may not have been %100 positive is just sad. Might want to get out of the music business if every time someone doesn't love what you do you cry like a bitch!

One more for the road Steve... Why is it that you are so uptight ?
I'm not uptight about anything. I have no idea why you are saying that.

Steve

I generally like the OPs clips. I see how this thread is shaking out so here is my two cents...

I put up clips often. For me its fun and i get constructive criticism. It forces me to face my shortcomings. But bottom line is this... The second you put yourself out there with a clip you will read citicism. I can use Bob Savage as a perfect example. Me and Bob have talked for many years online going back to HC. Bob is a solid dude that speaks his mind. A few years back i put up a vid where the guitar didn't sound so hot and my playing was meh. Some spoke negitively about and. Bob made some honest comments that weren't to favorable towards the vid. Did i get pissed? No. Did i stop posting vids of my playing? No i kept putting up vids. Bob and the others spoke their minds and thats cool. You put something out there be ready to roll with the inevitable criticism. Learn what you can from it. Some are just being mean but others are simply calling it like they see/hear it. Again my two cents.

Great perspective, Jim. Forums and the Internet in general are a terrible place to post your work if all one is looking for are ego strokes. You've got to take the compliments for what they are, listen to criticisms humbly and with an open mind and either ignore or alternatively have some fun with the trolls and/or mean spirited.

I would add to that when someone posts a question or a vid and doesn't get a response at all and then replies to their own post with a "Does no-one know or care about what I have birthed onto this page" type bump. Usually within 20 minutes..  If someone knew or cared the posting would commence. If no-one replies so what. Move on. I think some people get jealous of certain members who it seems no matter what they post they get a bunch of replies and conversation. It's a social medium and some members give off a better vibe than others or have engaged more enthusiastically with the community. If you don't get a lot of traffic, don't grab the sleeping pills. It'll be Ok. I've laid enough wood duck posts you'd think my profile was modelled after a Bavarian village. I don't care...

Seriously- what's with all the angry (redacted) posts, over solicited critique?

I mean fuck, we've all (ok..maybe not Chad) gotten heated here on occasion, but that was a straight up, off the meds, protracted display of crazy.

WTF?

I only read page one and skimmed the third page. My interpretation of events here is that OP posted a tune and asked for opinions. Steve K chimed in, offered constructive criticism, didn't slam it at all. OP's response was a bit butt hurt and condescending. Things escalated from there. And Dickola, your post on page three is one of the WORST posts I've ever read on this forum. No matter how mad someone makes you, especially on the internet, responding in that way only shows mental instability or immaturity at minimum. This place is pretty cool in general, but posts like that are grounds for a reprimand. All of this is, of course, IMHO.

Your perception of mine being the WORST post you've ever read on this forum is of little relevance to life itself.

Just a reminder of how minuscule you really are.

I'm very aware of how minuscule I am. You apparently lack in reading comprehension. I said your post is ONE OF THE WORST I've read here. Maybe it is the worst, maybe it wasn't. There's no doubt that it was very childish. Everything EVER POSTED on this forum or any other has absolutely no relevance to life, you're right about that. I'm not going back and forth with you on this because I'm sure you'll have another insult to throw my way because I stated my opinion about your post. Have fun, bro!

It is so not worth getting uptight about the things that take place on these forums. The best part is I have made some great friends here (like you Josh) that have moved on to other outlets (Facebook, Instagram, etc). I already liked you guys here but the social media has allowed us to get to know each other outside of just playing guitar. I will continue to come around here and contribute from time to time. I love guitar and enjoy the friendships I have made.

I love your proactive approach to living life. I will be trying this out tomorrow morning. I will report back with my analysis post haste.
