Love the Reeves and the Henning. Gotta say you're right... things just go better with Pauls!

When the other guy started out with the ibenhad I was like, "damn now I'll never know what these amps "really" sound like   Any demo with a bolt on guitar and hot humbucker pickup are pretty worthless to me. Also a strat. I'm just too damn Gibsonized.

Yeah I can't get into the Ibanez sound. Now I don't know about all Ibanez's but to me that Jem sounds like a keyboard and my Paul sounds like a grand piano. That guitar has a disconnected jangle that bugs me.

James - im a big Ibanez fan, and even i agree with you. do me a favor and if you want an honest ibanez comparison to your 'paul - find an early 90's RG550 - or play a few prestige models. but the JEM's are pieces of crap. i know a guy that sanded one down over on the jemsite forum to do one of those swirling paintjobs and found 11 different ply's glued together. and this is supposed to be a $2,000+ guitar that appreciates in value over time :gethim:

i also owned a 2007 JEM and hated it for the same reason you dislike them. but the other ibanez's i have played not only kill it in tone but in playing as well.

The last riff ( second to last) with the Reeves had a good bit of that Green Day "Brain Stew" tone going for it.

Can someone tell me why did the LP have that white paper like thing in the headstock and near the bridge?

alot of times when you are tracking in the studio you'll hear a slight ringing or overtones that come from the strings resonating past the nut and tailpiece..... that is an easy way to stop that.... I just went through that the other day when my band was tracking this tune with alot of stop parts....

Big and final set up day. Anyone bringing amps up today be here between 1pm and 4pm if possible. We are going to Tone Merchants at noon to get amps. Also some of us are going to get dinner at 5pm, everyone is invited.

That Friedman mod had a nastiness to it I liked better than the the Chup but that's hearing it through a cam mic too. I often find that with Marshall mods as opposed to the amp the modder makes. The Marshall just sound nastier than the production version. It's got me very curious about the Marsha though. That Reeves sound spectacular for classic rock stuff. It seems funny though that it was named and designed for the early VH sound but actually doesn't seem to hold together too good when really driven. How is it if you have the bass real low when having the drive up? Does it tighten up.

I'm not happy about not being there :(

So what's the deal with Reeves? Did some former HIWATT employees form their own company or what? On another note, the Chupacabra sounds great  Do doubt the best bang for the buck out there. $1100 and can hang with the big boys. I want to hear it go head to head with the CCV :D

Which brings up a good question (which may have already been answered in this thread)--what are going to be the "Main" test guitars and who are going to be the "main" players?

Stopped by and dropped off some amps today...things are pretty crazy in the studio, that's for sure!
Brought over my JCM800kk, pre-500 dual recto, a twin jet, and my Mark V loaded with EL34's!
Under the shadow of all the other great sounding amps though, it makes me feel like there us so much greater stuff out there, it's crazy!

I'll shoot some videos, and get them up shortly!
My advice, get there early, as it takes awhile to check in all the amps!

I don't even recall NAMM having this much tone under one roof    FTW!!!!

Where is the Bugera Soul of Valves?! I'd actually be interested in hearing how it stacks up..

Well here it is guys, the last 2 videos were just uploaded, preparation 4 and FINAL. Reinhold showed up in the FINAL and #4 includes a trip to Tone Merchants and some legendary amps!!! Incredibly enough youtube just approved me, out of nowhere, to upload 2gig videos. Which at this hi res is about 45 minutes or so. Crazy! Which is gonna be great considering my concept of how I was gonna record audio to video changed. I was gonna send a feed from protools to the camera but it just didn't sound good enough, so I'm doing it all the way, meaning syncing the HD video to the HD 48/24 protools audio in Final Cut. Gonna be the best of both worlds and will sound amazing. So the day is going to be filmed and recording in groups of about 20 to 40 minute recording sessions, meaning we set up 8 or 10 amps in a group, warm them all up and get some great sounds and then start filming and recording and go non-stop for a period of time (20 to 40 minutes) till all the amps have been thoroughly captured, including going back and forth between amps. So then I just import large clips into Final Cut, line up audio/video and then I can chop them up or if they are really smooth and cool just let it roll as it did at the event. Then I can upload slightly longer videos going into more detail.

It looks like there are 3 main categories;
1. Lower gain/lower wattage - (Fender, Electradyne, Vox, Orange, Victoria, some Bogners etc)
2. Marshalls and hot rods - (Jose, Friedman, Cameron, Fortin, Splawn, Wizard, Henning, Event, Soldano etc)
3. Super High Gain - (VH4, Twin Jet, Rhodes etc)

The amps will be grouped and recorded together, one after another. it's gonna rock. Anyway, I am exhausted guys, gonna try and sleep. I made a 35 minute (1.65 GB) test video and just started uploading it to youtube to see if it works. See ya tomorrow...
