Just got back from the NY Amp show. What a waste of time. The only thing I liked was the high gain Carol Ann amp. It ripped though a 1x12. Alan is a cool dude too

Saw, heard and played the Axe-fx II. It's was just plain okay to me. Nothing special Some great effects, but not worth $2,200...IMHO after playing it. I prefer tubes

So 99% of all the tube amps at the show were just Blah to you. And i'm sure you are just great at dialing in tones on the Axe Fx.
You sound like the go to guy for tone advice.

Finally a RT person got to play thru a Carol Ann :> that amp was based on a 73 marshall he modded and then it went from there, he shit is KILLER, still can't understand why there is no carol ann love on RT, hopefully that will change.

Ouch, Bytor just f@#$ himself on the tonal issue with the Axe FX, well unless the Fractal guys do not know how to use the thing LOL. This is not a dig to the Axe FX as the tone fits some really well, just like some like certain tube amps. However it is the likes of Bytor that thinks everybody has to like it or they just do not know how to use it that just cracks me up.

BTW Dave I have heard your clips, I like your tones you get, so that seems like you are a good place to stop for tone ideas and input.

Dave has some killer tone. I would take his advice and respect it. I do not want an axe FX. I like tubes. I am sure it has its uses and will be a good tool for others.Me, I'll wind up spending hours tweaking and drive myself insane. I have been there with other units.

I have a CCV & an Axe-Fx 2 on order from Brad. I bought the CCV to melt paint of the walls with my band at LOUD volumes, I bought the Axe Fx 2 to practice.

IMHO, each one will excel for your specific goal.

IMHO, each one will excel for your specific goal.

Many have done this and then the Axe Fx soon becomes their main rig.

I have a PT100 and a Mark V that sit at home and only get used now and then ( I love them for what they are though)

We have a couple of CA players here, Mentoneman and Fusionbear They are GREAT amps and here Andy is the shit with old marshalls as well.

I have played a PT100, Mark V and an Axe FX Ultra. The Axe FX is definitely better at effects, but the PT100 is a much sweeter amp, this being my opinion and I do not expect you to agree. The Axe FX sounded better than the Mark V to me however, the Mark V is a very sterile amp that I disliked very much!!

Yeah Dave i agree, the show overall was a letdown. At least Carl Roa was in the Pigtronix room. I had heard that a few companies were going to pull out because the way this thing is run. You know, $1600 for the room for the weekend, $20 a head at the door. Sounds like a sweet deal for the guy who's pocketing that! The rooms can't cost more than 100 per night and I'm guessing they get a package deal. I'm guessing $5,000 0 $6,000 for the rooms if there'a around 30 dealers. Do the math and someone's getting back $48,000 from the dealers.

I doubt I'll be going next year.


And is the guitar community growing old or what? Sure ok, I'm 41 but most of the people there looked to be between the ages of 45 - 60. It seems there was hardly anyone there under 30.

And as i told you, i was playing the Axe-2 and some old jackass made some stupid pose and blurted out, sarcastically, VAN HALEN. I didn't see that guy plugging into anything did I. Jackass.
