Well after having done a few of these in the past I'm ready to roll out another one and I have Superunknown (Todd Stricklin), Red Rider (Bill Niersback) and hthomas (Harris Thomas) co-hosting with me. Having learned a few lessons along the way this one is going to be a bit different.

Superunknown is driving out from Kentucky with his monster amp collection and spending the weekend in Lugo Land. He has a ton of Cameron modded amps and a CCV, Friedmans, Cornford, Custom Audio PT100 and a Mesa Boogie IIC+. I know Bill has some gear and of course his awesome purple Soldano SLO. I will have my amps on hand (Friedman modded 71 Marshall, stock 77 Marshall JMP, Bogner Uberschall Rev 2, Triple Rectifier Rev G, Plexi, Orange, Peavey 6505+, Fender Princeton, Fender Super Reverb and a Vox AC30. I know Harris Thomas will come up with his Port City and 3rd Power amps. I'm gonna try and keep the attendance to 15 people tops. It will most likely start around noon and anyone participating will need to be prompt. No late shows or floaters, this is a studio lockout. If you want to come you are in for the duration. We are gonna do high quality recordings of all amps using neve preamps and a 57/421 mic combo. All amps will be recorded by at least 3 guitarists with different guitars. We will also be recording 2 cabs separately; 1 with Celestion V30, 1 with Celestion Greenbacks. So you can hear each amp with a V30 clip and a clip with GBs. I will prep a song of my own to record and Todd will also record a track from his new band. Demos will probably be 30 seconds to 1 minute each. So each amp will have a number of clips with different speakers, players, guitars and styles. All being consistent so you can hear each amp with the same variables. I also want to either hunt down a serious modern metal guitarist (maybe 7 string) to cut some tracks. Or if they were interested have someone like Ola or Lasse send me a 2 tracks bounce of a song minus guitars along with a pair of high quality DIs to reamp for stereo. The last amp fest people really wanted to hear the high gain amps with the modern Extreme Metal/Hardcore stuff, so I want to find the right guy to fill that bill.

The lower wattage and mid gain amps will be treated differently and recorded in a fashion that showcases what's awesome about them. So the Fenders, Voxs etc.. will have their own type of demos with guitars like Teles/Strats/Gretschs etc…

So if people want to send or bring amps or manufacturers want to send an amp contact me. It be awesome to get some great amps in the ring!

This is gonna be killer!

The Stricklin Machine!

Wow that's very cool of you guys to do. Thank you, looking forward to hearing clips.

Also, you might want to try asking around on sevenstring.org about finding a 7 string guy in the area.

This is going to be lots of fun! Trying to find a Dumble, Bad Cat, Marshall YJM, and a few others for the session.

Love your avatar Stealth! :)

We can try to hit up a few local builders too...3Monkeys, Splawn, Swart, Germino, Carr, etc....see if they have anything in the works they would let us "tinker" with...a LOT are right here within 20 miles of Raleigh and then there are a few just a few hours away....(Splawn is just outside of Charlotte and Swart is in Wilmington I believe...rest are pretty much local)

What I would REALLY love is someone to offer up a Carol Ann Triptek for the weekend!!! :D

I'll be avail that day & have Peters Chimera, Splawn QR B+ and modded Surreal CM 100 - 2 suhr moderns, 2 TAGS, EGC & McNaught guits - I'll send you an email.

re amping sounds like a really good idea

that keeps every variable identical.

The week of the 7th is the week of finals for University. I really do not have a schedule that far ahead on my end. Not sure as to whether i'll be able to make it as of this moment but I am going to try. Todd's Ocean SLP is the entire reason I joined this forum - it would be a dream come true to get to hear that thing

It'd be killer to hear some of the Camerom stuff.

You guys should chuck a Kemper into the chain and profile errything!

Hey guys in in New York at AES this weekend but just wanted to chime in and say the response and the replies have been awesome. This is gonna be a lot if fun and a good reference for people to hear.

I've got a Kemper as well- and it would kill to get all these in Jame's pro studio!

I would love to hear how an EVH 100w goes up against the group. Doesn't Harris have an EVH? I know he used too.

Would also be interested in hearing a Fortin Cali and/or Killer Kali in the mix.

I think I'm gonna do a DI of my parts and just reamp everything.

Sorry I've been a bit off the radar with this but i ended up getting bronchitis and a severe throat infection. But in my med induced sludgery I am devising a killer plan for this. Something that is gonna work and be a completely comprehensive demonstration of all the amps. A combination of strict non variable DI reamping along with another set of real live playing tracks, playing to what the amp wants to give and what it doesn't. Sort of the best of both worlds. I'm looking for a guitarist to do the real soulful, bluesy, almost country style playing for smaller amps and mid gain combos.

Guitarist Ola England is on board and is sending a 2 track of the drums/bass and DIs for all guitars. He will be covering the extreme metal stuff. Todd and I will cover from almost classic rock to modern rock and some drop tuned metal stuff. I will also record people playing at the event and putting a compilation together of different players with different guitars and styles who play at different levels. I really feel it gonna be not only amazing but original and stand alone in its execution.
