Well after having done a few of these in the past I'm ready to roll out another one and I have Superunknown (Todd Stricklin), Red Rider (Bill Niersback) and hthomas (Harris Thomas) co-hosting with me. Having learned a few lessons along the way this one is going to be a bit different.
Superunknown is driving out from Kentucky with his monster amp collection and spending the weekend in Lugo Land. He has a ton of Cameron modded amps and a CCV, Friedmans, Cornford, Custom Audio PT100 and a Mesa Boogie IIC+. I know Bill has some gear and of course his awesome purple Soldano SLO. I will have my amps on hand (Friedman modded 71 Marshall, stock 77 Marshall JMP, Bogner Uberschall Rev 2, Triple Rectifier Rev G, Plexi, Orange, Peavey 6505+, Fender Princeton, Fender Super Reverb and a Vox AC30. I know Harris Thomas will come up with his Port City and 3rd Power amps. I'm gonna try and keep the attendance to 15 people tops. It will most likely start around noon and anyone participating will need to be prompt. No late shows or floaters, this is a studio lockout. If you want to come you are in for the duration. We are gonna do high quality recordings of all amps using neve preamps and a 57/421 mic combo. All amps will be recorded by at least 3 guitarists with different guitars. We will also be recording 2 cabs separately; 1 with Celestion V30, 1 with Celestion Greenbacks. So you can hear each amp with a V30 clip and a clip with GBs. I will prep a song of my own to record and Todd will also record a track from his new band. Demos will probably be 30 seconds to 1 minute each. So each amp will have a number of clips with different speakers, players, guitars and styles. All being consistent so you can hear each amp with the same variables. I also want to either hunt down a serious modern metal guitarist (maybe 7 string) to cut some tracks. Or if they were interested have someone like Ola or Lasse send me a 2 tracks bounce of a song minus guitars along with a pair of high quality DIs to reamp for stereo. The last amp fest people really wanted to hear the high gain amps with the modern Extreme Metal/Hardcore stuff, so I want to find the right guy to fill that bill.
The lower wattage and mid gain amps will be treated differently and recorded in a fashion that showcases what's awesome about them. So the Fenders, Voxs etc.. will have their own type of demos with guitars like Teles/Strats/Gretschs etc…
So if people want to send or bring amps or manufacturers want to send an amp contact me. It be awesome to get some great amps in the ring!
This is gonna be killer!
