Absolute heresy!

Here is my obsolete technology, lol. Just got the second one this week.

Anyone here was a member of my Pod Forum from around 1998-2005. Thanks to the Internet Archives (Wayback machine) for the screenshot

Just inherited a line 6 pod xt pro rack + a 200w power amp from '89 from a buddy who was offloading gear ... Any of you remember these things ?? I picked it up cause of its Meshuggah prestige. For a 23 year old modeler gotta say I think it sounds decent (my bandmates vehemently disagree lol)

Any of you use these in the past ? Got any tips or hacks ? It probably wont stay for long but I'm having fun cranking these knobs & seeing what the ol girl can do

Yes. I used the Insane Model.

I remember seeing a band playing outdoors at Disney World around 2010 and the guitar players had those POD pros in the rack and they sounded killer. Always stuck in my head for some reason and always kept my eyes open for one.

Clearly you haven't heard my Wolfmoon track. Guitars sounded plenty fine, especially given that it
a) was my first time with a brand new DAW in 20 years
b) was using nearly 20 year old digital tech.

Hot damn, that does sound good! How much of the tone is in post-production though, I have a feeling it took a hell of a lot of nipping and tucking.

Also guessing production is your strong suit, I can barely get anything to sound anything other than mush.

If he sells for a $100, he could get a couple of Neural DSP plugins, for example.

None to be honest. 🤓
Since I had to learn the DAW software as I went, all I did was an automated fade out.
The verb and delays were from the POD too.

But then again, my POD X3 patches were fine-tuned over some years, and with the tips of Glenn Delaune, I tried to get the most out of it using the Gear Box software.
The problem I found with most factory presets was the over-the-top gain, delay, etc. that were clearly tailored for instant gratification. But while such a tone may sound awesome when playing alone, they turn to mush in a busier mix.

What i remember about these is Mitts from Madball used one. He used the American High Gain setting which i belive is modeled after an SLO with a Mesa 2:90 power amp plugged into the deep portion & it sounded awesome.

you can find them now for $100.00

It was a little Line 6 Combo.. It had basic effects built in which is cool for a beginner.
But I had a Huge Rack by then, and it was not up to my discerning ears..

i get it. my early adopter friend had the flagship AXS 2-12 which he really made sound great. i bought the POD v.1 bean and then installed the v2 eprom and used it live briefly as a easy grabber. ran it into a SS princeton combo fx return and switched it via midi. sucked!🤣

the best i ever made the beam sound was using the boogie preset and running it into the fx return of my mark III. pretty spot on with the bonus of built in fx.

i then ran sound for a guy who used the POD XT rack for the AC30 sound, which sounded nothing like a real AC30 combo to me. no meat/flesh to it. laser pointer versus old lighthouse.

That's amazing. I struggle so much with tone in a box, so that just sounds unbelievable from where I'm standing.

I have one that came with a rack of stuff that I bought a while ago …. Maybe I should turn it on and see what it sounds like lol

You gotta look up Glenn Delaune on YT. He did all these 'how to create a great patch on a POD' videos back in the day.
Especially using the parametric EQ block (I know my POD X3 bean has it, not sure about the XT though...) by using some -24dB sharp slope low pass filter at 9kHz or so did wonders in getting rid of the 'digital' top-end.
Great tip. I've been looking for tutorials & they are hard to find for 20 year old obsolete tech ... Definitely gonna experiment with the low pass filter. That top end hiss sounds like shit & really clutters the sound, especially on muted chugs when I want enough top end for bite but emphasis on the low end beef ...
