I'll give you a hint. The only statistical information that can be gleamed from gun sales is a record of the transaction. Not the gun model, serial number or reason for purchase. Form 4473 can only be accessed by ATF at the point of purchase. It cannot be digitized and stored in a database.

In short, almost all statistics regarding gun sales are estimations based on the total number of NICS checks. The 4473 is not available to any government organization or anyone else. They have to physically GO TO THE STORE to pull the 4473.

Furthermore, nowhere on the form does it ask why you bought the gun.
