With travel and work I have not had as much time as I would have like to mourn. Now that I've kind of done my own personal time thing I've branched out more to see what others are doing. I used to go to VHND all the time for updates but it has been kind of quiet the past few years. Now I know why.

But I came across this cool 5150 Studio tour I have not seen before so I thought I share. It then evolved into some other cool and interesting news I found on VHND. Enjoy.

Yes, saw this vid in another thread here a few days back. It is interesting indeed. Love that his studio is a player's studio. Stuff all over within arms reach, the way it should be when you tinker. As for the tapes, not sure they will find much. Sure you might have some disjointed ideas but this notion that there are these brilliant tunes just waiting to come out is a stretch for me. Might be some riffs but the way Ed seemed to play on his demos, timing is all over the place without his bro laying the steady groove in the back. I would think they might have to hope for enough to sort of punch together a track (easy to do once they get it into a DAW) OR have some guys that really do "Ed" well, play the material. Nobody will be bang on but maybe Estrada among others, could lay it down.

Oh ! and one more thing.... Get Micheal Starr of Steel Panther to sing like vintage Dave on the material rather than Dave lol.

That reminds me. Pretty much from the moment I realized Eddie and Alex were brothers I always thought it would be cool if the two of them put out a 'Duet Album' with just the two of them.

That may be true. I also hear a lot of variety in VH. From Atomic Punk to Little Guitars. You know. I could see them mixing it up to provide a wide tonal pallet. Oh well...it will never happen now. Hoping there is some cools stuff in those Tapes that can be put forth to the public.

I don't think Wolfgang and Alex would go through all of it if they didn't think/know there was good stuff in there.

Also, a big part of the VH sound was Michael Anthony's chorus and Dave's yelping and crooning.

I was just listening to Little Guitars yesterday, that song has such a cool vibe and is so interesting how it is constructed. I think Dave came up with a really awesome vocal line over that one. Eddie doing that sort of Who/ Angus thing, love the rythm work. I think I might almost like Ed's intros and rythm playing more than his leads overall. Thinking Meanstreets... how the hell do you come up with that? Where does that come from?

It's funny now how when I listen to their (his) music I'm listening to is in a whole new light.

I mean, I practically burned myself out on VH1 and WACF to the point where I could hardly listen anymore. But now it is all fresh again.

Cool right? And yeah, when I listen now - I'm trying to find parallels or 'riff copies' from prior rockers and it reminds me of how original Eddie really was.

I hear ya, I'm doing the exact same thing. Almost like I am listening again with fresh ears after taking a long break. I notice these little nuances in the playing, cool mistakes, how DLR has more value than people give him credit for as part of that early sound and Alex's drumming which is awesome. I guess that's the point, music brings joy.
