A Axe-FX Review

I don't know anything about the Ax-Fx but let me ask a question. Is it that hard to just start with the Ax, Poweramp, Cab.....then pull up an amp sim, tweak some EQ controls, add some reverb and go with it? Do you have to do much more than that for a basic sound?

This is what I pretty much do (with a 2/50/2), and it's the best rig I've ever had. And as you know, I've had a few other amps in the past few years..

I did exactly that when I was checking out a friend of mine's. I got a decent sound but then plugged into one of my amps that was sitting in the studio and the tone from it destroyed what I was getting from the Axe FX. I tweaked for probably 3 hours trying to get one type of tone that was comparable in quality to them amp that was in my studio at the time. It never happened and I got sick of trying. I said it then and I'll say it now, others can make it sound really good, but the Axe Fx is not for me at all. I embrace digital technology and am not anti digital at all, either.

That was my experience as well. It's just not for me either for the very reasons you said. I also agree with Rogue about the feel and it just truly perplexes me how guys say they feel the same. Whether the tone or feel is good is definitely per taste but you can subjectively say whether they feel the same or not. The Axe definitely doesn't feel exactly like a real tube amp. Sorry it just doesnt. That said I can see someone saying it can if all you play is more modern gain amps that are compressed.

I think its all in each person's ear.

I've seen people with Diezels,Bogners,wizards,Marshalls,Mesa and everything else under the sun and they still couldn't dial in a good tone. And had nothing to do with there playing. Then I've seen guys come in and sound great threw anything they played

Prime example is with recording. You can go to studio with a million dollars of equipment and the Mix still sound like shit. Then go to someone with Protools le a $1000 studio and the mix sounds amazing.

If you don't have the ear for its not going to sound good. No matter how much you tweak it. sorry

and I know tone is subjective but if 20 people in the room think your tone sucks its because it does

Well, you know, it could be that those that think they've got a tube like tone dialed in just don't have the ear for it.

Never owned a Axe FX. clips sound really cool. Had a few LIne six amps and products. Not sure if its similar or not.
It was fun to goof around with but I like my Tube amps best.
I would get pissed and throw the Axe fx against the wall. I have no patience when it comes to 'tweaking' to that level.
More of a plug and play guy.
But when I hear the clips of the unit....its sounds great. Just not for me.

I love tubes amps too

I remember when Line 6 first came out it was the same way.

But I can promise you this technology is just getting better and better.

You know Radio's and TV's use to have tubes also.

The media remark was because out of a whole paragraph you quote one sentence and try to change the context of the whole paragraph.

I have to be honest... the whole "You probably didn't like it because you didn't spend enough time with it to find your tone in a unit as deep as the Axe." is getting real old. As if people know what a person's ability is or experience with effect units or dialing tones in is let alone how much time is enough.

Seriously... old or not it is what it is. Regardless to wether you know how to or not to manipulate frequency and tone, if you don't spend time with a tool that has so manny possibilities how can you possibly think you know how to use or work with it?

Like I said as if people on forums know what a person's ability is or experience with effect units or dialing tones in is let alone how much time is enough. You may feel you know that but I don't think you do.

I guess my post came across a bit sarcastic and that wasn't the intent so if I may clear the air and apologize if it was taken that way.

I have no idea what steby123's ability was befor he bought the Axe. The point I was trying to highlight was he spent the time to learn how to use it, that's all no attacks man... Like most here I to have owned and played through enough tube amps from cheep to silly exspensive to know what feels and sounds good and I still love a good tube amp I just don't have a use for one at the moment. For me the Axe and how I'm using it is a god send.

I understand the Axe wasn't for you and that's ok, I'm not trying to convince everyone if they don't spend 60+ hours to learn how to use an Axe they'll never get it. I just though it was encouraging that he was able to get to where he likes what he's hearing and took the time to actually go through each parameter to see what it does and not give up because of frustration. It sounds like he is content with what he has found tone wise and in the end thats's all that really matters any way agreed? peace
