The tone is the same, but the pickups have much more headroom. You don't get the compressed, dead feel EMGs can have at all. Very noticeable.Mailman1971":30u3oabh said:

Man, it's a good reminder, I haven't changed the batteries in my bass for a very long time. I've gotta do it before they die on me on stage. 
BTW, once every 3 months?!!!!
They last me about 2 years each. Once a year should be enough for paranoid people.

Sure they last longer than three months, I went about once a year when using them at 9 volts.
That was when i would notice the batteries starting to lose some voltage and keeping them fresh kept the headroom at its highest level.

I have an EMG loaded LP that has probably seen 50+ gigs, about 10 hours of regular use a week outside of that...and it didn't need a battery change for about 2.5 years or so. But, I also unplug the cable when I'm not using it.
