Everyone talking about the Atomica amp... Mark told me not too long ago that the Atomica amp made it's way over to Eddie Van Halen (along with a bunch of other Jose amps). Eddie plugged in and after a few seconds, said nope, already have that sound.

The public story is that the amp disappeared?

I played EVH's mod from Jose, it is 10 miles from my house and another in another state, and it is NOT the Jose we are all talking about. No diodes but maybe 2-4 filtering changes. I know the amp is real because the guy was there in the shop when the mod was done. The guy is still tight with Ed, I saw a 1/2 stack 5153 in white that Ed gave this guy for giving him one of his EVH Jose mods several years ago. Stack was signed stating thanks for the fair price and being honest. For all I know the amp that Friedman had was this amp.

Lolzgreg can back this story up as he was there with me

you might be referring to one of the others, the atomica was demodded and cleaned and sold. Eddie needs to go back to that tone. and kick wolfie out..

So where did you see it?

Far as internet legend the Atomica, which is the CCV and jose mod people sold to get the CCV just disappeared  Curt had $3000 on it and it still went bye bye, that kind of cash for an amp backi then was sick money.

I still say Friedman had the Jose that was bought by Ed about 3-4 years ago. No diodes were in that amp.

Isn't there already an Atomica by another amp builder?

You really do not know the answer??? wow......................

Mark is the one who ripped off the amp labeled Atomica, not Jerry.

You go through all the legal stuff Brad?

Some bands name being used............

The amp was someone else's property..............

..............and never returned.........................

Good luck!

 Mark didnt end up with ATOMICA, it was sold off years ago from the music store mark worked at and then the restored to original with the mod being lost other than in Mark Cameron's head and notes. Guys have been trying to cop Jose for years, Mark just was fortunate to be able to spend a bunch of time with what was arguably the best one.

I know the story and then some ;)

Agreed, Jose mods were all over the place and Mark was lucky to find a great one to tear apart!

No argument about what Jose was the best, we can only go by Curt and Mark's word and even then not many of us can play like they can!

There are other great Jose mods out there btw ;)

Joe Holmes has a few.

6 of 'em....at least the last I saw

Joe Holmes has 6 of these? Is he even playing these days? Have not heard about him in quite a while!!! What a great talent though!!!

I havent.. im saying based on your description it sounds like we are referring to two different amps. The one with atomica written on the bottom (assuming there was one of those) was returned to stock by my friend richard. My atomica is not based on that specific amp but one of Joses schems. When my website is done it will describe this amp as a tribute to the dude. And besides if you were looking for diodes you would have missed something in the atomica amp. :)

Ok now I am confused too   :D

The Atomica that I am talking about was the golden example from Jose's customer's amps that Mark fell into and the one that for years we all thought was the one used for Mark's Jose and the CCV. It was a beat to shit 68 plexi with Atomica written across the front where the logo should have been. The amp disappeared even after Curt offered the owner $3000 which in 2000 was a crap load of money for a beat to shit plexi reworked. Story says never seen again.

The amp with no diodes is the Jose "EVH" mod that a guy I know sold to Ed 3-4 years ago, plexi with simple filtering changes that was pretty beat up headshell wise. Old school everything on ten instant brown. This amp I am speaking about may have been the one that Dave had in his shop.

Your amp sounds very good and very cool you are giving the nod

ok ..you got it right two diff stories and two diff amps. Also regarding Joe Holmes, there was another tech right down the road from Squid Music his name was tony alamia and I beleive I met Joe there way back. Tony also did some of the same sort of mods Jose was doing at the time. There were other old times using diode tricks but their amps sounded like cheap tranistor distortion pedals.

Re: The Attenuator

Will there be a line out and a setting for

A) Just line out to send to Cab IRs for recording ?

B) Second setting allowing low volume micing and simultaneously sending a line out ?

Thanks.

I saw Elvis in Kingman Arizona! He was sitting at the counter in Denny's eating a grand slam breakfast. His vintage Harley dresser with white leather fringes everywhere was parked right outside the door!

You rang

I was there with Scott... the amp had no clipping. Filtering changes were what made the difference and it sounded like an exploding Plexi. The "secret" is about using a variac and diming every control. That's the sound right there.quote]

Spoke with Mike Soldano on the phone...a few times; really cool guy who doesn't mind chatting

When he had Ed's famous Marshall amp he basically said the same thing...it was a loud bright Marshall until you used the variac and then boom there it was: "THE" Sound!

Im confused a little. Is it possible mark got his memory of the atomica and his aldrich schem mixed up? The atomica sounds aldrich like. Im not trying to start some weird argument or whatnot. I just hear aldrich in that atomica a,d the orig atomica was more VH like. (as I understand the story)

The bottom is going to drop out of the used Cameron modded Marshalls market I believe.

I doubt it. It seems the Cameron mods have settled in around $2,000. If anything the prices will go back up.

Exactly considering that all of Mark's modded Marshall's are all a little different, some are multi channel some are not including the Aldrich's.

I do look forward to hearing these new single channel ones, I had a single channel Aldrich and that thing was killer, you rolled the volume knob down and it cleaned up real nice so there was no need for a clean channel.

Thats what is cool about his modded Marshalls. He tweaks each on based on how it sounds... component differences, transformer diffferences, etc. Nothing like having the master personally doing the build.

I can see why they are not having Mark do these anymore, he spends a lot of time and hours on each one not just tweaking but playing through them. It just would not be possible for Brad/Rob to do all this stuff and have Mark mod amps on top of it all, I know Mark had been playing through each production CCV before they ship to make sure they sound right.

Its not feasible, efficient or even possible to have Mark hand do all the mods people want him to do. Much better quality, consistency and delivery to have Mark build one perfect golden example with his hands and then have one of the best amp guys in the USA (George at Metro) in the country reproduce it.
+1 Many have seen and experienced frustration with Mark doing all the mods and sound testing/tweaking the amps   I see why people got mad it him before. He wants to please everyone but before Brad came along, who really pushed the production and marketing of his products, Mark bit off more than he could chew. I think it's great they are working together. As stated above, have the artist make one master piece then get a top-noch producer/builder start producing them.
