After all these years, I can easily say

Thing about them, everything Vrad said is true, but also the biggest mistake everyone makes with Splawn is dialing them in with their eyes instead of their ears. You gotta go with what SOUNDS good, not where you think the knobs SHOULD point.

If you can't sound good through a QR, perhaps you should check out bass or drums... :hys:

yourself and chubby make them sound great for sure :D

I did remember considering a pro mod at one point, but then reality struck - i am not a pedal person, and hating QR's is sacrilegious to splawns.

The QR is a picky amp when it comes to tubes/speakers/pickups/guitars... So the wrong combo (especially speakers) will leave you with the wrong impression.

What is your speaker choice with the QR? thanks.

Do they work with V30's? I have a silver jube i would trade for a QR + cash if any QR owners are down.

The Nitro I had was rediculous loud though, guys right about that. I had mine fully attenuated and was still running the amp on less than "2" shattering windows.

Glad you found your one and only. Some of us have searched high and low for that. It's a good feeling when you open 'er up and VOILA!! The sound in yer head becomes the sound in yer hands. Nice.

So, just as an aside, and this is seriously JUST an aside, I remember perusing their website not too long ago - Splawn - and there seemed to be this weird jesus christianity bent going on. Quite honestly it scared the shit outta me and I have since always kept my distance. Was this some kinda spoof or something?

Cheers,
Mo

Nice. Good knowledge to have. I have yet to play a splawn.

You know, we's local and I have a QR and a Nitro (and a VH4, and a Chupacabra 50, and, and, and... :D ). Hit me up... maybe when Rich (mightywarlock) gets back to town we can do another Mini-Ampfest at his pad.

The Splawn QR is the one amp that I can't live without. It simply does everything I need. From 80's metal, to heavier stuff with a 7 string. It does it all.

That's it. Just had to say it.
.....and just being able to admit....is the 1st step.
Congratulations sir.

Why thank you!
I actually took the weekend off. Didnt play at all. Rough week :aww:
But its ok....I live my guitar playing thru you.

I've been in the mood to play alot lately.

Thing is, there's nothing going on when I do my recordings. There's no 'doctoring'. I don't use any eq so when people say they hate the QR but like the clips of them I'm thoroughly confuzzled... LOL! :D

Nothing sacrilegious about not digging an amp. Trust me, I'm not insulted if you don't like it... LOL! :D
I just think that alot of times people hear what they want to hear.

I will tell you this. The QR is a picky amp when it comes to tubes/speakers/pickups/guitars... So the wrong combo (especially speakers) will leave you with the wrong impression.

Vrad -

You are not kidding about the QR being picky about tubes. The QR is the most sensitive amp I have owned in regards to tubes and speakers. Get it right and the amp sounds as good as it gets, get it wrong and ............

Ok, so I'm not Christian (Jewish by heritage)... I'm not religious at all. To me it's all fairy tales.
That said, Scott is a religious dude and it influences his customer service and his work ethic. I can appreciate that and I wouldn't let that sway my purchase. Quite the opposite, wearing your religious beliefs on your sleeve doesn't go very far in this industry. But because he does, it makes me think he's genuine about it.

Im not saying the QR is a bad amp...and I think Scott is a talented and good guy. But the amp is just 'loud' and 'soul less' to me... volume pots are shit... notes just die at the strings, no sustain, no harmonics.. My guitar player still plays one live and the thing just shrills through the mix...I can't warm to it. To each his own.. but for my own, the QR just doesn't do it for me.

In most cases, everything at noon sounds perfect (except gain and volume).

SB25s in a straight Splawn 4x12. Perfect match!!

V30's are probably not the best choice for the QR. Although I have not tried it personally.

Not sure about your experiences with the QR, but it's quite the opposite for me... and it's not like it's the only amp I've owned...

I currently own 4 amps:
'71 Marshall Super Lead
Budda SD80
Peavey 6505+ - this one isn't all that impressive in comparison to the other ones LOL! :D ...

But let me put it to you this way, my QR replaced my XTC Classic... ;)

Psychodave, Shredder75 and myself went thru every possibly preamp tube combo one day over Dave's house... What worked the best was the much maligned stock JJ ECC83s.

From my own personal experience, JJs with the reissue Mullard EL34's works the best for tubes and for speakers, the SB25's are superb.

Still have my QR from many years ago. Can't seem to let it go, regardless of the other amps that come in.

It's not the most versatile amp, for sure, but if you want "that" tone, the QR does it, WELL, end of line.

Well it's not versatile in the 4 channels with 19 different modes sort of way. But it's versatile. You can get a decent clean sound. Awesome heavy distortion and just about everything in between.

Agreed Vlad, it definitely has choices...I am not saying there isn't any tonal variety. Actually, as I mentioned, for the tones it has it does them REALLY WELL. I love that hot-rodded Marshall/early VH sound and I don't think I have found another amp that can do it the way the QR can. I actually sold a vintage modded Marshall back when I bought the Splawn because I felt the Splawn did it better

Just saying that I have other amps that have what you are talking about, multiple channels with switches, etc...still I plug in the QR and go WOW!

I loved my Splawn QR, & I loved my PM...just hated their stupid turn around time on a fix, mod etc...also hate my splawn cabinet (has the big blocks in it & they sound terrible).
